Default Bodymotion Racing CTSC GS GT4 plans

11/15 Ocean NJ.
Bodymotion Racing announces their 2016 IMSA Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge (CTSC) plans. Starting with the official IMSA test days January 8th, 2016 and continuing through the season finale at Road Atlanta in October. The team will contest for both Street Tuner (ST) and Grand Sport (GS) championships. The team will debut at the Roar before the 24 pre season test, a new Porsche Cayman GT4 GS racecar driven by racer Cameron Cassels and veteran racer Rene Villeneuve.

Drivers Cassels and Villeneuve will pilot the GS entry for the 10 races scheduled. The duo drove with Bodymotion in the team’s GS Porsche 997 at the season ending round at Road Atlanta in 2015. Cameron a relative newcomer to sports car racing from Coldstream, British Columbia, Canada, is excited to finally get behind the wheel of the new car and work with Bodymotion and Porsche Motorsports throughout the car’s development. “We believe that this car will be competitive against the Mustangs, Nissans, Camaros and BMW’s even in its first year of development” said driver Cameron Cassels. “Cameron and I drove for Bodymotion at Road Atlanta this past October in the worst rain conditions ever, and did well in the teams’ 997. The driver, engineers, and team all worked very well together and I believe this will be the key to a successful 2016 campaign” adds co-driver Rene Villeneuve.

“The Porsche Cayman GT4 is Porsche Motorsports version of the highly desired Cayman GT4 production model that is offered by Porsche Cars of North America with the majority of the body shell made of aluminum combined with a 3.8 liter engine and a PDK transmission. The car will arrive this December with a safety cage, fuel cell, air jacks and no interior; otherwise, it is a production car” comments team principle Mike Bavaro. Bodymotion Racing will field a 2 car effort in ST and GS respectively using its years of racing experience and engineering along with team manager Geoff Abel keeping his ever watchful eye on one of the best pit crews on the circuit.

Cameron Cassels began racing in an organized series in 1999 with the Legends car series in Western Canada. In 2002 Cameron committed to running a full season with hopes of a championship. His peers voted him as the ‘Racer of the Year’ at the end of the exciting season. In 2015 Cameron participated in the Skip Barber Summer Series with their formula racecars. His first road race saw him standing on the podium in only his first time driving Road Atlanta and the first time racing one of the Skip Barber cars. Cameron competed in 8 Skip Barber races in 2015 with 7 podium finishes including a win at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca racetrack.
Born in the United States to a family with strong roots in Canada, René grew up in the USA, Canada and France. Following his dream, René started racing in 1987 when he attended the Spenard-David Racing School in Canada run by Richard Spenard – a popular and former teammate of Gilles Villeneuve in Formula Atlantic. René’s racing careers is long and diverse with many highlights including Speed Vision World Challenge, American Lemans Series, Historics and Rolex series races from 1987 to present. Highlights include 2 2nd place finishes in ALMS GTC races at Laguna Seca.

So the GT4 club sport can run ST and GS?

What modifications are allowed in ST and GS?

The GT4 Clubsport runs only GS, not ST. The Base Cayman is in ST. There are really no modifications allowed. IMSA dictates stuff such as ride hight and weight to make all of the cars relatively "equal". In comparison to the Fords, Camaros and especially the Nissans the GT4 will be relatively underpowered at the stated weight. Will be interesting to see how IMSA will will make the GT4 competitive in GS.

Congrats.
I've driven with Rene before. He's a good shoe and a nice guy as well. Great to see him get the ride.
Good luck for 2016.

Yes. Body Motion already ran ST cars last year with the base Cayman. While this press release emphasizes their revised GS program, hopefully Ethan Low is with them again this year in the ST Cayman. That kid can drive and he's on track to be a series regular of the caliber of Eversley.
