GT4's, what's the word from the track ?
Just curious if anyone has done any track time with their GT4 and what their impressions are.
Worthy of the hype ???

You might want to check out the GT4 forum, a sub-forum of the 987-981 forum. No shortage of comments there. A handful of customers got their cars over the summer. More are arriving now. Some people have gotten some track time. Most of the comments have been very positive. The car may not be a GT3 killer but with a base price of $87K it's a spectacular value.

I had the pleasure of being passed a couple of times in my 3.2 from an instructor in a GT4 and it felt like i wasn't moving at all. Very fast car. Granted i'm not the fastest driver out there but that thing was hauling.

I, too, would be curious to hear from actual owners. On the GT4 board there seem to be two primary concerns: a lot of understeer from the factory, and super tall gearing making it hard to keep the motor in the powerband. If true, the first is probably easy to solve... the second, not so much.

The understeer that has been reported by some is a minor problem. The factory setup does not allow for sufficient negative camber. With aftermarket toe links, some additional shims, and a new alignment, this problem has all but disappeared. I expect that once beefier sway bars with a wider range of adjustment become available it will be even easier to balance the car to each driver's preference.
As for the gearing, 1st and 2nd gears are long. I haven't wound my engine out to red line yet but I'm told that 2nd is good for 80+ mph. It's the guys driving around town who are complaining about the gearing the most. You're pretty much breaking the speed limit once you hit the power band in 2nd gear. The guys who have been tracking their cars have not found the gearing to be as much of a problem because they are staying in the power band more easily.
Bottom line is the folks that bought GT4's because they like rowing the gears are a little upset that they can't row them enough. At the same time, most people seem to really enjoy the auto-blip feature when downshifting. (You can turn this on or off) Go figure! Almost everyone who has gotten their car feels their (high) expectations have been met or exceeded.

From all I've talked to it understeers like a pig and the gearing is a negative. That's about it however. This video is pretty good

As Beantown noted, the understeer can be fixed. Gearing not so easily.
I'd still take one in a heartbeat. And looking forward to my first student with one.

In purpose built sports racing cars, that second gear doesn't sound too tall for use around the slowest corners at Watkins Glen, Summit, Mid-Ohio, etc. Might be a pain at tracks with slowish corners like Laguna Seca, Mont Tremblant, etc.
We'll just have to see...
I spoke with a few guys driving GT4's on South Course at VIR and they were very happy. Even more happy on Full Course...
