Blown sidewall on Hoosier R7
#4
This set is about cycled out anyhow and I already have a new set to be mounted. Would be interesting to see however if this is a week spot of the R7 in which case what tire would be an alternative?

PM sent.
Was this tire only mounted once? Meaning was it taken off and put back on at any point in time? I have had a couple of issues with R6s after they had been run and taken off and then remounted. I have stopped using any take offs and not had any problems with new tires even when I run them to the cord.

Thanks for the PM Texas. To answer your question, these were new tires and have 15 heat cycles on them as this tirewall blew. This morning I started at 27psi whereas I normally start at 29psi. I cannot remember ever having hit anything with the tire other than rumble strips. I never had a blow out on any of my R6s.

I would not rule out a low pressure issue. The R7s are designed to be run at higher pressures than the R6s. I used to run the R6 at about 35 and am now running the R7 at about 40. One of our guys called Hoosier and was told they should never be run below 34 or you risk damaging the tire. Our cars may be a little heavier, but this should give you an idea.
