I noticed the rules state the width can only be 1 inch wider than stock. It doesn't say anything about diameter. Would it be beneficial to run an 18" wheel as opposed to a 17" on my 965?

its been decided. I’m removing the fender oil cooler. this will give me room for the break ducts. My cars at 180' when running full-tilt-boggie. Mobile one oil runs best at 200-210.....so i can afford a few degrees.....

I went to home depot for mine.
I used 3" metal stove ducts. I used two hose clamps to attach to the strut. The source is the fog light holes on the front spoiler.
Cheap and crude, but is quite durable and works for me!

any thought's on this comment re: this same question on the pelican BBS??
"1. 1" wider than widest option available for your model. I believe that 7 X 16 was the largest option for your year. 8" wide rims are the widest you can run without incurring a penalty. 9" will bump you up a stock class and you car will be considered a prepared class car. "
BTW, Please don't think i have not tried the proper channels...I'm sure the final judgment can be made by Lance Weeks, Club Racing rules, but, he has not responded to my email from 2 weeks ago......ohh well......maybe he's on vacation........

I've been on automotive listserves since '91 and I appreciate how hard it can be to assess answers and parse opinion from fact from anonymous internet denizons. The guy on Pelican "believes" wrong.
I will only offer a short, recent testimonial: After the sprint race at Mosport last month, the G cars were the subject of a random impound. (Actually I think they were after that dirty cheater in car #... well nevermind) PCA national scrutineers with clipboards examined all six cars entered. Two of the six cars were running 17x8/9 by Fikse (big,shiny, obvious), one was running Fuchs 16x8/9. Myself and one other car had Fuchs 16x7/8. I didn't look at the sixth. All the cars but one got cited for missing underhood hardware; none were cited for wheels.
As Mitch (who has campaigned an F 911 Carrera he is selling now) reiterated, 8/9s are legal for 911SCs and Carreras, and are considered to be the fast setup.
