My first thought was to check my calendar and make sure it was not April 1st... then I looked for an Onion logo...

Crazy stuff!

Okay, so imagine you just spent $xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx, xxx for controlling interest in Formula One. What's the next step?

Are you going to milk it for every dollar of investment profit possible? Or are you going to pour profits back into the business...lower ticket prices, give teams a bigger cut, reduce track promoter fees... the sort of things that strengthen a business in the long run but lower the bottom line in the short run.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Investors don't "invest" to lose money.

(Hey, they could hire Andretti to run F1.)

Or it's purely a vanity/ego purchase.

We can hope for that. The arabs are not known for being stingy so hopefully they run it "properly".

Will we have to say goodbye to Champagne and alcohol sponsors? Goodbye Martini?

Qatar just had some extra hundreds of billions left over after buying FIFA, the next World Cup and all of their Olympic Athletes so they decided to buy F1. Now there is guaranteed to be a race in Qatar with 120* temps.

Hey, at least they have enough oil money to build an indoor F1 track with AC. Maybe we will see that.

Based upon the past performance of the Dolphins this does not look good.

Watch the current edition of "Real Sports" now running on HBO for the real story about Qatar and its effort to buy international sports prominence.

BTW, it's not "oil." It's natural gas that gives them riches.

LOL ... I didn't do that in this case because I had read there was a party in the US (didn't say who) and Qatar that were "thinking" of buying a major stake in F1... but I do the same with other over the top stories in F1.

BTW, everyone knows Bernie is the one going to the bank of this even if he isn't directly involved with the deal, right? The guy seems to make $$$$ on every move in the business.

The only hope is that these new owners tell the FIA to shove it and give the people what they want.

Too bad it's not former Dolphin owner Wayne Huizenga, he seemed a pretty good owner for them when he had them.

Oh, my bad, I guess you are right.

I guess Bernie wouldn't sell them a race so they bought all of F1......... Hey at least if Bernie had sold them a race, they could have bought a couple hundred thousand slaves (er fans) to make it look like real race fans were willing to perish in that heat.

lol
