Default WTB: NORCAL Open trailer

for widebody cars - Featherlite or Trailex preferred, but open to anything that is in good shape.

I'm in SF, but could drive up to 150 to meet (halfway etc)

Default Me too

Picked up a 17'8" open trailer and had a friend fabricate a tire rack for me...removed the Featherlite fiberglass windscreen. I have always wanted a Featherlite, and finally!!!

Default Tire Rack

The Tire Rack was made for me by a friend, Jim Copp, a fellow POC Racer. My wife got it for me as a gift...she won't tell me what it cost, but I suspect a little less than what Featherlite charges...they want $1,200 for their tire rack, ouch!

Jim is a long way from NorCal, Chula Vista...about 500 miles one way, 1,000 round trip. At 15 mpg and $4.00 a gallon for gas, you are looking at $266 in gas + a nite in a hotel + food, add $500 to whatever cost Jim may charge. I am sure there is a good fabricator in the Bay Area that can build one for you.

In my case, I was going to be in the San Diego area anyway...so the trip was easier to justify...and besides, my local Featherlite dealer (Bakersfield) didn't seem too interested in any business I could throw his way.

See enclosed pic...the back of my truck with 4 tires and 3 storage bins...with the Tire Rack, all I need to schlep in the back of the truck are the storage bins, a set of ramps and my cooler, and the jack...and in the interests of security, the bins can be stored inside the cab at night, under lock and key. Maybe the jack and lite weight ramps too...don't know yet, have not tried it.
