He should at least get a few frequent flyer miles for that.

Scary. Once he knew he lost it he tucked his hands in and waited for it to be over.

Unbelievable that he was able to walk after that like it never happened. Testament to the safety equipment these days

Noticed that too. Good lesson for everyone--if you're headed into the wall, hands off the wheel or it's broken hands/wrists.

I haven't seen footage of the driver's head in an Indy car before (I don't watch the series) but I'm impressed how little lateral movement they allow, at least in this car configuration. I wonder if it's different for the street circuits.

This thread will devolve into how an average Rennlister could have saved that spin and what Helio did wrong.

Kidding aside, I'm glad he was OK. At those speeds I can't imagine the panic that accompanies losing control of the car.

That was about as gentle a touchdown as he could have hoped for. Could have been a lot worse, the car is even mostly in one piece.

One hell of a rollhoop - took a beating when he came down and hardly looks worse for the wear. Lucky boy, just like Mario a few years ago testing one of Micheal's cars.
Can't imagine going that fast that close to the wall. As Hobbsie says, they have some impressive attachments!
And Pippa Mann took a pretty good hit on the pit wall in practice too...

Don't lift!

Safety has come a long way.

today it happened to Newgarden...

Indycar has a big problem on its hands IMO. two cars airborne in two days...new untested aero kits...no clear solution...throwing guesses at the problem (removing wicker bills etc)...I don't like where this is going.

Yep, this could be a big problem. Both cars had the "Chevrolet" aero package. Both cars held up very well, but in a racing situation, things might not go so well.

Looks like the youtube video was taken down. Here's another source:

wow, that was the fastest 'copyright claim' I've ever seen. thanks.

I think the best/most obvious solution is everyone goes back to the 2014 aero package.
