I saw this on Jalopnik where the general response was favorable, but most of the people commenting have never been to a sportscar race in their lives and like getting enraged on the internet over silly things. Racing is supposed to be a spectacle, and pretty girls are part of that. Look at the little F1 montages they play before the races. The girls are usually there to advertise for sponsors and are working for a PR or modeling company. The few "grid girls" I've talked to all seemed genuinely happy to be at the track and be part of the event. There are much harder ways to earn a few bucks and no one is forcing these girls to be there. If you don't have the spectacle you've just got a bunch of cars driving in circles, hardcore gearheads will still be into it but it loses the mass appeal. By the time the PC police are done this world is going to be a very boring place...

Personally, I'd rather promoters attract viewers with good racing.
