Default advice on good tool kit for track

I'm tired of carrying miscellaneous bags of sockets and wrenches to the track. Looking for a quality kit for metric and SAE sockets (long and short) and ratchets. Don't need screwdrivers and other tools. Just the sockets and ratches...1/4 all the way to 1/2. Not sure I need the best but looking for something that will last. What are the ones to avoid (Husky, Rigid, anything from Harbour Freight, etc)?

thanks

I use a Craftsman toolbox that I can barely lift when full and keep it in the back of the truck, but I do have one of these for general use, and it's quite good:
TEKTON 11811 1/4-Inch, 3/8-Inch, 1/2-Inch Drive Pro Socket Set, Metric, 60-Piece - Tekton Tools - Amazon.com TEKTON 11811 1/4-Inch, 3/8-Inch, 1/2-Inch Drive Pro Socket Set, Metric, 60-Piece - Tekton Tools - Amazon.com

Note that it doesn't include an 18mm socket (motor mounts), but it's a well-made metric-only kit.

I have an extra set of 118 piece Dewalt kit for $75 plus shipping. Unopened and still in wrappers. Let me know if you're interested. Here is a link to the kit. I'm in South NJ, near philly.

I've been happy with my Stanley 201 piece kit. I think it was about $80 too.

I think Craftsman tools are the best value around. If you wait until there is a sale you can get some incredible deals.

I have a bunch of Harbor Freight stuff and I am rotating it all out. That stuff should be labeled "for one use only - maybe".

Costco has a craftsman set for $99. I believe it has 118 pieces with 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2". I did buy a separate set of wrenches though as the number of wrenches in it was very limited. The $75 deal above looks pretty inviting.

There are a couple versions of this, but this is a nice kit. Sockets all stay in their slots, drawers can be removed if you want to have the entire drawer close to where you are working (They are a little snug at first, I sanded down the ends so they slide easier). Metric/standard in 1/4 through 1/2" with torx sockets, etc. It is a good little kit for the track. Top of the box can be used to store your wrenches, etc. PS, box has side grabs to pick it up, don't pick up by the top handle, lol.

This is a great tool set, nice organized box. Regular $299, on sale today $149. Can not beat this. I carry it to the track and in the camper on trips

I have the same one. Also doubles as a seat if I forget my folding chair!

This is a great looking box. My "travel" box is such a disorganized mess that half of the time I spend just looking for the correct socket or wrench the organization of that particular box as a travel kit is making me want a second set of tools right now.

I can't wait for track season to be over every year to put stuff back in my main box where I can actually find what I need in short order when working on the car.

Craftsman is good quality stuff, I've actually found the Kobalt brand from Lowes to be just as nice these days but the majority of my tools are craftsman. While none of them are on a level of say Snap-on or Mac they are still good quality. Cheap harbor freight tools have their place but the wrenches and sockets are the two items I specifically stay away from at that place.

That's the set we travel with. The top compartment is big enough you can add some extra things in to supplement the other items.

I limit Harbor Freight items to things that I won't get hurt with when they break. No sockets, ratchets, wrenches, etc.

Buying the tools is the easy part. My problem is i have no idea how to use any of them You can say i'm one of those guys that's all thumbs. I can barely add oil without making a mess. Strange since my father and 2 brothers were the type that could build/fix just about anything. me, not so much.

Should get one of these boxes for the times my shop is not with me at the track. it's bad enough if i have to ask someone for help, i should at least have the tools for them to use! Must say though that the few times i've needed help at the track for whatever reason, people are really great about giving a hand.
