What a lovely place! few trees, lots of berms close to the track, the creek in the inside of the pit straight.

And, of course, The Dip!

Corvette then, Corvette now...

+1. Brings back memories. I did the Runoffs at Road Atlanta in '88 and '89. Fun track, especially the speed going under the bridge in the old configuration.....but much safer now.

Amazing to see how much earlier cars needed to brake then and how the cornering speeds were much lower.

I'm reading Donahue's Unfair Advantage. Frightening level of (un)development in the late 60's and early 70's - Things we take for granted were just being figured out - camber curves, bump steer, brakes that last more than a few laps.

Back then the big American iron cars were known to be real boats on the track. RSRs back then with their 300 hp ran in the same class in IMSA as the big block Chevies making more than double the hp ... and the Porsches usually beat them

And that's part of why I fell in love with Porsches and chugged the KoolAid!

I went to several Run Offs in the late 70's early 80's with my dad. I am pretty sure I was at this one and he won the National championship in D production.
