Question Rennsport II... will you go?

Assuming the format will be the same as the LIme Rock event, both PCA cars and vintage, who will be going to the event? The last one was superb, and it sounds like PCNA is promoting this one even more. What are your thoughts? We'll be going from up here in PA.

I wish they would have picked a dedicated road racing track, I know Daytona is rich with history... but the banking and the long straights will probably present problems for most with gearing, although i have never run there.

I am considering going. I e-mailed Brian Redman's website and they said as far as they know the format will be the same. They said they would keep me posted in advance so I can plan accordingly. it should be a blast!!

Cheers, James

What does the same format consist of? Will PCA Club Racers be able to race?

Sorry Greg, i should have explained... Yes, at the Lime Rock event there were two run groups for PCA cars, two for vintage and an exhibition group. Since our car is a '77 bodied F car... we were able to run in two groups. The problem was the vintage group was with 300hp real RSRs and such, but on the short lime rock circuit it was still a good showing and more track time.

Cool. Do you remember what the entry fees, etc where? Just curious if it would be worth even considering since it is a 15hour tow.

Greg, If it's going to be anything like the last Reunion, it's TOTALLY worth the tow. I'll be coming down with a bunch of folks from NE( Dan Jacobs is bringing the trailer) . Remember that Gunnar Racing is only 2hrs. away so I'm sure they will bring their awesome spread of cars to compliment the Porsche museum's cars. Can you tell I'm pumped to go??!!

You have no idea the magnitude of the last event. Yes, the entry fees will be steep. With the Redman events, I think it was over $300 for the first race (car) and another $180 or so for the second race group. Plus a test day maybe, eh it adds up.

BUT, as James said, this event is soo sweet. I was at the first event at Watkins Glen (double 50) and the lime rock event (Renn I) got even better. It was the largest gathering of 917s EVER, with the old drivers driving hard ( seeing Redman and Haywood battle at the glen in 962s doing sub 1:50s was unforgettable). To cap it off, you're driving in the same event as these guys, chumming with them around the paddock and people are paying to watch you race! To be a spectator at these events is great (they had to shut the gates at Lime Rock!) but to be a driver is even better.

Yes, The Renn 1 was the first time ALL 917/30's were on the same track...I think that added up to 6000BHP for those cars alone!!!! I seem to remember the announcer saying at one point there was 11,000Hp on the starting line...Unforgettable....

When is this?

I went to Monterey in 98, thinking that was going to be the bigger event, instead of LRP.

I should have gone to both.

Greg, will you tow my car too?

Too good to miss. I ran with the 944 Cup guys at Redmans Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, James and Brian run a class show.

By the way PCNA has given David Derecola a hard time about using the name "944 Cup" at this point I think he'll be using the primary sponsors name "Racers Edge Cup"

Thanks for the info guys. If the entry fees are what you state or close to it. I will be there with my car, I just couldn't afford to pay $2000 to run a couple sessions, but anything in the $500 range is a relatively easy sell for the wife Any website with info yet?

Mike,
I can't tow your car but I know a guy that can drove it
I think the event is in April. I might forgo a Club Race or two to do this.

Looks like it'll fall between Road Atlanta (Peach State) and Lime Rock (CVR)

Sounds like an ideal way to open the season

I agree with it being in the "open season." Anyone have any thoughts on Daytona itself? Ever been there? Will we be running out of gearing in a stock 3.2??
