Default Helmets and other safety equipment

Would anyone know the best place to obtain the safety equipment needed for an upcoming DE here in the New York City area, including Westchester and LI?

I'm looking for a helmet, fire estinguisher and the corresponding mount, etc.

Thanks!

While not immediately in the NY metro area, OG Racing in Virginia is a good source for the mounts (Brey Krause makes good mounts), extinguisher (recommend Halon), and helmet. Stable Energies is in upper NJ, and can also provide similar equipment. You really need to try on helmets, as they all fit differently. When I first tried on helmets, the first one was uncomfortable, the second I almost couldn't get off my head, and the third fit just fine.

Thanks Bill.

Anyplace you can recommend to try on the helmets, and what brand(s) do you recommend?

Almost any helmet that's Snell SA2000 rated is fine (some drivers ed will allow motorcycle helmets, however, unless you need one, I'd recommend the automotive helmets). I like the Bell M2 for three reasons. First and foremost, it fits; second, it goes around the front jaw (full face model), and third, it has a slightly larger eyeport which assists with glasses on/off.

Stable Energies isn't far into NJ, not far from the GW bridge. If you're in Westchester or the island of long, you can get there easily. Don't know what brand helmets they carry, however, their website is www.stable-energies.com. Don't know about other helmet shops in the area.

I just went to Stable Energies last night to prepare for my first DE in September (Lime Rock) and buy a helmet. Nice and knowledgeable people. I also picked up a harness bar, camera mount, gloves and a Chatterbox student set that I will install in the helmet, extension chord, 2 oil filters ... (you get the idea).

I ended up with a full face Pyrotect fiberglas helmet which is a good combo if you want to do some open wheel driving too. I also tried the Bell M2 (because both models have large eye ports) but the Pyrotect fit better. I highly recommend trying on a helmet before you buy it.

Oh, yes I am not affiliated ...
