Ims beware
Just wanted to share some imteresting facts that i found today. Im a Porsche wrench and have been for 20+ years. Today i had a customers boxster that was making noise and had cam timing issues. Car has been to several shops with no solution but thousands spent to try and fix it.
First thing i notice is an IMS fix from Pedros Garage. I gather data to get a baseline and then i disconnected the line and plugged it up, started the engine and the noise is gone and cam timing is back to normal. I have not done more testing but saw enough to know that i will never put one of these on any motor ever!!

Lol Im not angry at all. Just wanted to share something I found and thought the information would be useful to others. It may save your IMS bearing but if you lose lifters and a cam in the process what have you gained?

Thanks for sharing, but please let us know if you figure out what causes the problem.

I don't have an issue with the vendor. Yes it was Pedros Fix NOT the LN Solution.
I unhooked the oil feed line to the bearing and blocked it off. Restarted the motor and let it run. The lifter noise went away and the cam timing was back to normal. I can only speculate as to why it was doing this only on the one bank where the oil was being diverted to the ims bearing and not to the cams and lifters. I don't believe that taking oil from this point in the engine is a good idea, you can starve critical engine components and cause a failure. This is the first time I have seen Pedros fix so I have nothing to compare it to but I have installed many of the LN solutions and not had a single problem with any of them.

How long has the Pedro kit been out? I've never heard of it but it does seem like good 'thinking outside of the box.'
It just seems to me that if you're going to go through the trouble of getting to the IMS, why not just replace it with a better one (the 'IMS fix') rather than doing plumbing?

I have Pedros' DOF system on my 2001 Boxster S and my Spec Boxster race car.
I do not have any symptoms on either car as you describe. My 2001S is a daily driver and the race car gets plenty of track time. Perhaps there is another cause for the cam timing being out. For example, I had a cam timing issue on the Boxster S PRIOR to the DOF install and it was a faulty solenoid which was intermittent. We replaced it and the cam timing issue went away. Please take note that the cam timing issue was intermittent and occurred PRIOR to the DOF install.
I am happy with this system and confident it is a good approach to the IMS issue.

I wonder if there is a flow re-stricter as part of the kit that may have been left out of the install. Perhaps even an overall low oil pressure issue resulting from internal wear or some other anomaly.
Or, could this be a viscosity related issue.
Just thinking...
