Default luring your wife into track driving

Want to go for a drive honey? Hmmmmm..... whats that over there? Oh looks like a indoor cart track. Cool, lets take a look. Maybe we should try it.

Rent helmets, driving suits, watch the safety video and 2 sessions on the track. Lots of fun, low key, few beers afterwards.

Nephews come into town a month later and we are looking for entertainment. How about the cart track? 5 of us had a ball and my wife passed me 2 laps before the checker.

2 months later. Honey, I am going to Summit Point for a low key DE event. Weekday, small field, good instructors, want to try it? Sure!

The hook is set. Her first DE next Friday. Ole yeller will look good in the green run group...

Just wait until she asks for the "cheap" Carrera" to practice heel and toeing!

"Cheap Carrera" is a relative term, IMHO. I think this one should be fine for the green run group . . .

I've toyed with the idea but am afraid she'll like it too much and want to go all the time. This stuff is like my only guy thing, some have golf for example.

Sam, That car is way to pretty. She will have to make do with yellow/red/flor green for now.

Bill;

Did you point out the sink strainers in the exhaust to make her feel like home?

Well I am doing this slowly with my fiancee.

First she came out to some of my races & autocrosses.

Then the PCA had a ladies drive free autocross day.
(Check last months PANO for a picture of a few of "ladies" that were looking for free track time )

She agreed to give it a try and did fine. She was really worried about being slow and the ladies day was nice as it brought other ladies out as well. This made her feel better. I specificly told her there would be other slow ladies out there too so she should not worry. She really enjoyed it and this season we will attempt do a full season starting in October with out autocross school. We will not be using my race car as it is too much for her right now. Instead I will be using the 83 parts car as it is in running condition. Hopefully I won't need and major parts (engine or shell) until after she is ready to move up.

We may try DE one day, but I am letting her drive the schedule and have told her that she is free to stop at any point if she no longer want to do it.

BTW... I am teaching her to drive stick right now

Anir,
Since our wives talk I can concur, lol! I made the suggestion a long time ago and even suggested her drive my old M3. She was luke warm but then got a ride in my race car and there is no chance.

Bill.
All I can say is you have probably created a monster!

A couple of years ago, I tried to pressure my wife into DE, autox, anything.

Some of the veteran lady club members spoke to me about that: said something like: don't pressure her into doing anything she doesn't want to do. I listened, and now I understand.

Case in point: if I pressure her into performance driving, and someday she picks up a hobby like, say, basket weaving, then guess who's gonna be pressured into basket weaving?!?

I am looking forward to it. 90% of my "off" time is spent racing. That is 3 or 4 days away from home each month without Janet. She has always said that the excitement is in the driving not watching.

Problem is she will quickly find out Hoosiers are not really $25. each and Bob Woodman is not an investment banker. Those little white lies come home...

My wife agreed to do a two day autocross school as a first event. She worried about what she was getting into and whined about it for two months before the event. After the first skid pad exercise she decided maybe this was fun and by lunch time on the first day she was having a blast.

Since then she's done many autocrosses and one three-day DE. She does not enjoy DEs that much, partially I think, because of an off track excursion when she got rattled due to her instructor. I'm trying to get her back into a DE, but at least she's done it and understands my intertest and supports me.
