944 Cup Tire Rule Change for 2015
Just a reminder, the tire rules for the 944 Cup, also effecting SP2, will change as follows for 2015:
For the Cup Class/Stock (SP2/Stock), the tire section width will be reduced to a maximum of 245mm.
For the Cup class/Prep (SP2/Prep), the tire section width remains at 275mm.
The combination of tire and rim must fit under the fender.

Attempt to save racers some money on consumables when new tire options became available just this year. But for those who must have the 275's, can still be used in the class as SP2/Prep.

Some have asked if the SP2/Stock replacement tire for the 275 will be available as it is not shown on the Hoosier site in the R7 model. Yes, Hoosier has assured me this tire size will be made and offered in 2015. Hoosier is hoping for a November or December production date. There is a new part number for this tire being made in the A7 / R7 design.
Item 46522 – R7 / A7: P245/40ZR-15 R7 / A7 - $251.00 each

I do not understand this change. Rules have been stable for years. The 275 tires will wear longer offsetting small change in cost of tire.
I would rather see a change that encourages running a square set-up. With a square set-up the tires and wheels can be rotated between all 4 corners to even wear. I would like to see wheel width be 9" front and rear, or as a second choice limit to 8".

If you look at Hoosier's "new" tire lineup for next season, they aren't making a 245/40/15 front tire anymore to complement the 275/35/15 rears ... but rather a 245/50/15 that is 24.6 in in diameter,i don't see how that would work with a small diameter 275,it basically leaves you with the only option to run a square 225/45/15 setup ...

SP2/Prep allows for all the mods SP2 /stock does plus some additional mods, one of which is the continued use of 275 mm tires for 2015. Sp2/Prep requires a minimum weight of 2750 lbs with driver.
