Default Trailer license plate solutions

I'm on my second open trailer and this one suffers the same issue - I drag my license plate whenever I pull in or out of a driveway. The license plate sits at the bottom of the tail gate and gets dragged and bent.

I bought a license plate frame which is supposed to be mounted on the side of the trailer toward the rear but when I received it I was unhappy with the way it mounted, how much it stuck out, and how it would look.

I was looking to see if anyone manufactured a license plate bracket that had a hinge but came up with nothing. Accordingly, I bought a couple of door hinges at Home Depot and was going to mount it that way and stick some tire weights at the bottom so it stays down while driving.

Anyone else have this problem and address it in another fashion?

My ACT came with a hinge for the license plate. Check with them.

When I lost two license plates on my Featherlite, I called them up for a solution. The guy suggested that the plate is hitting the ground during loading, and cracking the plastic bracket, and eventually breaking. He suggested getting some piano hinge and mounting it with that.

Mine wasn't hitting the ground, but just breaking from fatigue from flapping in the wind. I bought a new plastic bracket, traced it onto some aluminum .090 sheet, and made my own. I haven't lost one since.

The fender is a little too far back, and since it is removable, not a great candidate to have the plate light wired in.

I sent an email to ACT so we will see how that works.

I'm thinking about doing something with hinges and creating a bracket.

Mine is mounted to a stiff piece of rubber. It'll bend wherever it needs to.

This important issue merits the attention of RL's most accomplished wrenches. Where are they??

I called ACT and they said they didn't sell anything like that.

Mounting it with the kind of flexible rubber bracket used for exhausts may be an idea.

I'm going to have to come up with something as my license plate gets bent upward about 90 degrees every time I exit or enter my driveway. At some point the plate is going to break in half!
