Default radar detectors.

Looking for a new one. Who is the current champ?
I think I want a windshield mounted piece vs. built in.

I have a V1 and don't use it much, so many false alarms I'm desensitized to it going off. Escort in other car works better.

Stay away from wireless.
I got 4 different escorts
Best one is build in to the car with jammer.
Others are no use full if you are the only car on the road.

Have a V1.. Big and clunky.. Must be old school right??

Tried the latest Escort.. Newest technology.. Has to be better right? GPS tracking of false alarms etc.. Thats mucho cool , but the V1 has noticeably better range. No contest. Escort was given away as a gift.

Last time I got caught speeding with my V1 got a ticket for every MPH over speed limit. I got pulled over in exact same spot same speed w/o detector and was given a warning, not sure any of these are worth owning anymore, little bit like a condom with a hole in the end, not much protection.

I love my V1. Apparently there's a way to disable K-band and X-band alerts, probably going to do that soon. It would drastically reduce the amount of false alerts, considering I haven't gotten a single real K or X band alert in the 3 years I've owned the detector.

That being said, they aren't a guarantee of not getting tickets. If you're alone on a stretch of road and the LEO is using instant-on radar, then you're dead meat, no matter what detector you have. But as long as you are mindful of the limitations like that, they're really useful IMO.

The one time I was pulled over with my V1, I made sure to take it down before he got to the window

Been pulled over a few times with my V1. Used to remove it from the windshield and put in on the floor and toss something over it. But after a while I never bothered. In fact a few times I pointed out to the officer I had a V1 and that I knew there was a radar trap and had slowed down under the limit and he had associated the radar alarm from his gun with my car when it was another car that was the speeder.

I never got any indication the officers cared much one way or the other. A few times I got a ticket. Once or twice I got let off with a "warning".

I had a v1 that gave so many false alerts I finally just gave up on it. It literally went of all the time. A constant onslaught of noise that made me want to run it over.

Since I'm in VA i bought a Bel Sti driver. I like it very much. And the popo can not detect it. I drive by an alphabet soup of police cars everyday.

The only downside is that the new Audis have some sort of radar that sets it off. It almost the only false alarms that i get.

the setting to disable the sounds for the never used Xband etc are VERY easy and there is a how to on the v1 site (simple google should pull it up)

V1s range is nuts. i mean really line of site if not further in some cases.
personally i got used to the beeps and could pick out the ones i need to care about easily....change the settings and the annoying beeps went away.

But i have had 1, and only 1 officer say he got me with his detector detector....after i already anwsered yes to having it in the car...his face made me think he was bluffing (or the guy behind me had one) but i havent run it in a while

Jammers are a big fine if im not mistaken..but they work from what ive been told.

If streak is saying he has no issues i would buy whatever one he has....his area is NUTS on radar/laser traps....and if he drives as fast as he does on track...i dont think he would ever get under130-140 on any trip to duncan doughnuts

STi Magnum or Escort Redline (same detector, different branding) are fantastic. Add Escort Live to either one and you get warnings for what detectors in other cars are picking up - it really works!!!
