Is it the angle of the picture or are the front struts offset from the center of the knuckle like a rally car?

Cool car!

Can't see the rear suspension but given the partial 'R' on the trailing edge of the rocker panel (pic with the rear fender off) can I assume that was originally a 964 RS built to 993 RSR specs?

Good call on the 964 base, Matt.

Guys, Frank Depew here.

I want to point out that this is not the original chassis of the 72 Car. Rick Deman bought the parts including body work from when the car was upgraded to EVO 2 from the EVO1 and built this car using a 964RS America chassis.

The original car was a 964 Turbo S race chassis from Porsche. The car ran in that trim and was then upgraded to the 993 EVO body work you see here, and then further iterated to an Evo 2 with even wider rear fenders. This is the body work from prior to the conversion to the even wider stance and the Evo 2 bumper.

Dave Schnoor who did the original graphics still produces and even applies the graphics to this original body work. He is a perfectionist and wants it just right. Some liberty has been taken with the exact livery, by adding the number to roof instead of the big STP logo, changing the HH Brown Footwear to Depew Motorsports, and changing the number location on the doors.

I will post more later and answer questions, but wanted to quickly clear up the "original part" in the quote.

Thanks,

Frank

So the car in the OP is just a clone running some of the original Champion's car bodywork?

Perhaps retubbed would be a more thoughtful description.

I stopped by Rick's shop around the year 2000 or so when he was building this car. It was a bare, caged chassis at the time, and he showed me some of the Evo 2 parts that were about to go on it, including the inconel headers. Beautiful (and very cool) car ...

You expected thoughtful from Scott? Scott, maybe not enough coffee this morning?

Frank, it's a lovely car and people really like seeing it at events.

While I don't know exactly what car/chassis is what, isn't this the original? Or is 74 a sister car to 72?

This is the car that the Drendel's sold at auction a couple years ago, along with the rest of Matt's collection....some of which you see. In the picture.

Guys,

I am just asking a question.....is it a retub of the original car or is it a clone with some of the original body panels?
