Great video, you were really hauling

Just a quick question - why did you choose the advanced formula school over the advanced road race school? Just trying to weigh between the two for myself this fall..

Not sure, actually. I just wanted to drive open wheelers, but I'd have to check back to see the difference. I was there on a discount certificate that I got for my success in 944'SuperCup, so might not have applied. In any case, you can't go wrong.

Frank, did they not let you use your own helmet?

That looks like incredible fun. I notice that the instructor generally seemed to keep you off the curbs -- what do they feel like in such a light car?

I didn't bother to carry my helmet, takes up too much room, but you could of course. Nice and free without a Hans! The curbs were there for the clipping, and fine to do so. The way my knees were banging the cowl, I elected to stay off for the most part.

As I said on FB Frank it looks like you had an awesome time! You should take that B&W photo and frame it. If i become anything more than a hacker with my FM, maybe I'll take a similar school.

My limited time in the FM has been incredibly rewarding when I'm not busting it. I'm sure you're grinning the same way I am.

Thanks, Cooch! Watch this space, I have a deal to do a F/2000 race in June at Lightning.
I really liked that F/M car, would love to try it on another circuit.

That was cool!!!

How was it to drive this as compared with your S2?

The good thing I saw was that when you spin, you can still save it much more quickly than with a sedan...

A different animal than the S2, Charles, as to be expected. But not too foreign to me as I have prior formula car experience.
It's way lighter, at only 1700 lbs, so even with less HP (170) it's still faster.
Does everything quicker; brake, transition, accelerate. Very sensitive to pitch and weight transfer, and this is where I was able to really work on technique; trail braking more than I'm used to, and quicker to gas in the corners. Hard to describe.
One main thing that I love is a race gearbox, just lift and shift, so quick.
Also, this car feels better as you go faster, the aero gets to work. I'd like to drive it on a faster circuit.

Thanks Frank for the answer!

Are you going to race SCCA in FC? I'd like to know what differences will be between the FM and FC.

FM

Sealed Motor (rotary)
Spec parts
More Power
Less Aero
Built more like a tank than most FC
A bit more forgiving than an FC it would seem

FC
Pinto or Zetec Motor
Less power
Better aero
Built as a formula (see rules) so variance exists
Has a really good pro series
Some parts are fragile, especially some of the aero. (don't go off course)

Sorry, I meant driving differences. I already knew the physical differences between both. I'd like to know what is the most fun to drive.

Last year I was thinking of buying an FC, then I just realized that racing by myself here in Quebec would be boring. So FF would be a better choice, but I wanted to try a car with aero.

Anyways, as of today, I'm racing the 944... will switch to something else someday...

Actually, the F/2000 that I refer to, and will race in June, is of the Bertil Roos race series deals. A 2L formula car with aero, but not an SCCA-Spec F/2000. I hear hey're considerably revamped this year, so I'm looking forward.

As for not wearing Hans, Winder, I didn't bring mine and they didn't offer any.
