yes it has been crazy. Just like sebring last year
Fluid on the track in the esses caused 6 cars to go off, 5 into the concrete wall.
Everyone ok, just frustrated.

I think the drivers are ok (at least all the ones I saw) but PCNA (and PMNA) is going to get rich from this weekend...
The conditions were changeable yesterday, but no significant carnage at all. As a matter of fact, folks were playing extra nice and driving within their car and their own capabilities.
The Group 2b race went to hell because of the perfect blue and sunny skies (with the best track we've had since Thursday) was engulfed in a downpour during the FCY to pick up a few folks who fell off, after only a third race distance. Felt really bad for the Havoline livery Cayman running up front who aquaplaned off at Turn 9, ON THE FCY! Hopefully, the driver is ok, because the car wasn't.
The Group 3b race (big cars)? Well, it was not pretty. Far worse than last year...

I will say that Road Atlanta is a particularly difficult and punishing track in changeable conditions. Minor offs a lot of other places result in contact (often heavy) here due to the proximity of the 8-12 ft tall concrete walls located in many places less than 50 feet from the track surface. These were all installed specifically to keep the pro guys OUT of the spectator areas, but they are treacherous for those who OWN their cars. Tough deal...

I shake my head when i hear this about RA every year. I wonder what nationals for NASA will be like there in August.

Well, I signed up, but chose not to race. Did the TnT on Thursday to get a little track time. Perfect weather. Road Atlanta is always a risky and high penalty track. I buried a car there in damp conditions in 2006. Yesterday went well, unless you were DEing in the Subaru.
Tim Pruit wiped the field in the rain during the fun race.
I hope the drivers are well.

It reminded me of the GT-1 race at the RunOffs many years ago when they started the big, powerful cars in the sun on the front straight and ran into a wall of water at T6...
Starts at about 1:45 into this SCCA F&C instructional video (it's like Signal 30, not for the squeamish, though no one was seriously hurt in these incidents).

Sorry to hear about the carnage.
They really need to change the race weekend.
It rains every year, and usually the weather is terrible.
I skipped this year after attending every year since 2007.
Road Atlanta is a beast that eats cars in the rain/mixed conditions.
Its the only track that I truly dislike in the rain(the Glen isn't much better). The back straight is plain scary. You never know if your going to come over the rise and there is going to be a car that has lost it sliding across the track.
Hope the weather is good tomorrow.

Should be nice, if a bit on the cool side, tomorrow.
