Default OT: CHP Roadblock for Emmissions Dyno....

Ran into this CHP 'voluntary' emission testing dyno this morning and just had to take some pics. They use a Mustang dyno, no WHP or TQ readings unfortunately or I'd have thrown my Benz on it. Your taxpayer dollars at work....

I'm all for clean air but I don't get this. We are required to have an emissions test done every two years when we renew our registration here in the People's Republic of Cali, so what is the point of this? Go after cars with expired registrations, DUIs whatever but don't waste enforcement resources on this stuff.

It's a good thing Wifey is driving the Kids car, a Mini. I had to go over to the dog groomers on Huntington today. I took Main Street.

Thanks

lots of people put on their cats to pass emissions, then take them off right afterward and drive with just mufflers or straight pipes the 729 days until their next inspection. this is a way of spot checking that, I guess.

If they gave a print out with 3 consecutive dyno pulls and signed classification forms they might get some more volunteers . Who has time to waste randomly pulling over and testing their car? Why would anyone do that? Unless you are a retired senior with nothing to do I don't understand why anyone would volunteer for this...

I don't think you volunteer...the nice gun toting police officer tells you to do it.

Actually they don't have the right to force you onto the dyno, some idiots just volunteer...

Haven't seen one of these for a while, I'd thought they stopped doing it. Supposedly its done to 'calibrate' the required smog checks. You know, the one every 2 years that tuned cars swap stock parts back, do test, then swap back again their mods.

My response would have been: NO (and I'm stock)

The other setup they have is some sort of infrared scanner they will setup along freeway onramps with a camera setup. Supposedly will send letters to gross polluters for smog check.

meanwhile, the drones operating the device surely are making $50/hour each, taxpayer paid, regardless of whether anyone volunteers

and Kalif wonders why it is beyond bankrupt...
