Nice looking car.
Up here in the Great Lakes region GTS5 is the up and coming class. Currently only occupied by 997.1 GT3 Cup cars.
Someone (namely me) has been selling a bunch of them and local guys have been grabbing them up. By the end of the season the class will have at least 7 cars in it. Last month there were 5 signed up for Mid Ohio and this weekend there are 4 signed up for Pitt Race.
We have one getting delivered in a week and we have one racer that is going to go through comp school this year. There is also one fellow who vows to come to a 997 from a 996 for next year and one more (current SCCA) racer getting a car in 3 weeks.
Here is an example of what I am talking about:

I have 6 more left (started with 26).
Thanks

Here is a picture of mine (slightly modified with 997.2 front end and fender flares and a bigger wing)

Get a cup car. It really is the easiet, most cost effective way to race NASA GTS...You'll think you are getting a deal on something, spend a ton of money, not to mention time, developing it and building it...and you'll still have a car worth much less than you paid for it at the end...and it won't be as good...been there, done that...You can de-tune to race in GTS 3 or 4 or uncork it and race 5. It's the way to go IMHO.

Yep gotta agree, the rules are built around them, p/w easy to get to and a fraction of the cost of a pcar. You can get a well prepped, competitive car for less than the cost of a cup motor refresh. Sad but true...

"cost effective" includes selling the car after you are done racing it...assuming it is still in one piece ! You will recoup a much larger percentage of your original investment when you sell a factory built race car versus any other. Take a look at the $$ people have in some of the class winning cars that were built from street cars. Look at what they get when they sell them. Imagine what the third or fourth owner will get when they sell it. To each their own but I think it is hard to argue against a factory built race car.

But it is crazy to suggest that buying a used Cup Car is more cost effective than buying an already built BMW race car if you plan on racing the car for 3 years or more.
It is easy to argue against a factory built race car like a Cup Car if finances are an issue and you plan on driving the car a reasonable amount over time. Everything is cheaper on the BMW....everything!
