I regularly run with Chin. This is interesting because they have NOLA on the schedule for the week after F1 @ COTA. I was actually considering making the trek up to NOLA from Central Florida, but COTA is very attractive for those of us who don't have much (or any) opportunity to run there.

Humm, Mike didn't Chin announce at the drivers meeting that it's finalized for the weekend after F1 just like the get the weekend after the 12hr Sebring race? Maybe I misunderstood...your a better reporter than I...LOL...let us know what you find out. Thanks!

Chin normally runs 3 groups. If you do 3 groups of 70 cars (entirely reasonable at COTA), break-even is only about $263/day/car. So charging $700 for a 2 day event, Chin can make $37,000 profit. $750 nets more. Etc.

VR, I think your numbers are off.
Yes, they make money but nowhere close to that. There's capital investment, truck and trailer costs, advertising, trip and lodging costs (probably not just Mark and Maria), several insurance policies (not just the one for the individual event) and lastly, there are ALWAYS additional track rental charges...
I am sure no one comes away rich from this stuff, only with the ability to do it again and more...
And is everyone paying? What about instructors? Just a thought...

You might also look into that assumption of 70 cars it seems COTA is limiting it to 35 for some and 60 for others but no 70 run groups to date that I am aware of.

Perhaps you guys are right, and alternately perhaps Chin will charge more than $750. And don't forget, big groups liek Chin and others receive additional funds from their sponsors, so many of their annual costs (which are spread across their 30+ events, such as transportation, salaries, and insurance) are heavily offset by other revenues not directly tied to specific event registration fees. As a point of reference, due to sponsor income and registration fees, last year's PCA event at COTA turned a VERY large profit...
Matt, that number is WAY higher than what many large groups, doing lots of event days per year, are actually paying...

That is the number I was quoted from an insurance company that is in the business. I know groups who do many more events (like PCA, BMWCCA, etc) who have national policies and cover hundreds of event get lower policies.
