Boy Did I Screw Up: Advice Please
Been excited for the Road Atlanta race at the end March for some time now..already bought tires, registered, getting work done on the car, everything.
I realized today that my wife's 40th birthday is the 28th, that same weekend.
In fact, I even made some plans for her on the 27th and then was going to plan a big surprise party or something. It didn't slip my mind, it just didn't dawn on me that the two events coincided.
Really bummed. Any ideas? We have two small children, 5 and 7. I thought about doing Chateau Elan with her, but I stay pretty busy race weekends and her birthday should be special this year since it is one with a zero behind it.

You haven't screwed up yet! Forget the race, make it her weekend. Won't bore everyone with the details but many years ago I was faced with similar decision. Made the wrong decision, ended the weekend upside down on the roof due to a stupid mistake. Have always attributed the f-up to lack of attention knowing I should have been somewhere else and wasn't concentrating on the event.

Looks like the consensus is to focus on the birthday. Think I should get those marital points this time. They do pay a great dividend.

Your screwed either way. If you dont go your wife will get wind that you were even thinking of going and no matter what you do you will still be in the doghouse for some time to come. Go and yes you will also be in the doghouse. Its part of that women are from Venus thing. No matter what you do weighing the options, do the right thing, your screwed. Its just the order of life...

OP, if you are asking the question, you know you aren't going, 'unless'... as another Poster above noted...
So, leave your plans re the race, payments, confirmations, docs, partly hidden and about semi-conspicuously; and do your real planning surreptitiously. Have a great celebratory weekend and never once mention the race or missing same, and if brought up downplay its importance repeatedly. All about her...

1. dump the race
2. drop kids to in laws
3. do the 40's or you be VERY SORRY.
4. after 40, buy that black orange RS, no questions asked.
