Default HANS Advice

I am looking to buy an adjustable HANS.

Which do you prefer, post anchor or quick click anchor attachment to your helmet?

TIA

I have an older carbon fiber HANS for sale which has been updated to the sliding strap set-up that fastens to the clip points on the helmet. You can send me an email if this is of interest to you. Thanks.

I spent for the quick release and have not used it once.

HANS device stays on my helmet.

Hans stays on helmet for me too. Slide the yoke on and then the helmet and go. Quick click.

Some folks have noted that the QR buckels clank on the helmet and make noise.

I have an older HANS with the sidling tethers, no quick release. I was looking at the new models and I found the adjustable to be quite heavy relative to the other models, and heavier than my mine. I'd only consider the adjustable if I has had two cars, one with an upright and and the other with a reclined seat.

I have the normal anchors. They seemed less intrusive than the quick release. Totally not super hard to get on and off, either, IMHO. I don't really see the point of the QRs, TBH.

I like the quick release. I have a "thick" neck so I have to put the Hans on before putting helmet on. It is very easy, even with gloves on, on the grid, remembering when they give the 1 minute to go signal.

Cut the tethers a little if you go that route. They are long enough to be annoying when swinging in the cockpit.

Thanks guys for your input.

Will check out the weight difference between the adjustable and non-adjustable HANS.

If emergency get the hell out of car scenario my Hans and helmet is coming with me. No way I'm taking time out to use qr's. About the only advantage with qr is if your unconscious the e-crew can remove easier. Mike

More than happy with post anchors/sliding tethers. HANS and helmet stay togther for me for each event, no issues.

I also sideline as a fat guy contortionist.

Default Hans post anchor vs QC

I like the QC anchors - think they are easier to put on and off the helmet, especially when wearing gloves. They do weigh a teeny bit more than the post anchors. Do not recommend QC anchors if you are driving a convertible or open cockpit vehicle. The tethers can come loose and flap around and become distractive. The new QC comes with velcro so you can velcro the orange release tethers to the chin of the helmet or trim them shorter to dangle just below the helmet.

Regarding weight differences on the devices, they all offer the same type of protection. Some are just heavier. The weight difference is noticeable when holding one in each hand but the weight is evenly distributed on your shoulders and I don't really see much of a difference. If you are a small person, had a broken collar bone or sensitive in the shoulder area, the weight might be a factor but it's not for me.

I personally prefer the post anchors. Mixed with the sliding tethers, it's a great combination.

Unless you are going to be using your HANS in a variety of cars from sedan/sports cars to formula cars, then there is no need to get the adjustable.

That's a good choice.
