Default Jay Leno's 182 mph spin in a Porsche Carrera GT

In a Labor Day 2005 publicity event at Talladega, Leno lifted and looped it five times, hitting only a cone.

David Donohue then took it to 196.301 mph and said it was one of the most difficult cars to drive he's ever experienced.

“The Carrera GT, at speed, 'is intense,' Donohue says. 'There's a narrow line around the track. I don't have a choice of going high or low; I'm just guiding the car. You place it the best you can and let it tell you when it really doesn't want you to make any more input.' The Carrera GT doesn't like to be corrected.”

I remember Leno being asked how long a skid his spin left and he said not as long as the one in his underwear.

The Autoweek writer, Steven Cole Smith, describes Leno's skill set: "I would not call him a natural talent, but he is certainly competent and careful."

Before the spin, Leno was asked what it was like to drive the car around Talladega.

“If your erection lasts more than four hours,” he said, “consult a physician.”

PS - There was a Carrera GT in the paddock last weekend at the Chin event at Road Atlanta. It never went on track.

+1. Substitute "CGT" with any car and you'll get a similar response. The car is what it is, a street legal racecar, not a Buick.

Of course that does not apply to Audi station wagons on the Autobahn, especially those being chased by a motorcycle.
