Default Questions About AIM MXL/Smart Cam Problems

I have an AIM MXL dash that uses the external GPS from Smartycam. The antena is on the roof. The last time I used it, I noticed that everytime I download data from the dash, the GPS does not aquire satellite (see "Seach 0 satellit" message on the dash) for the next run. Once I turn the Smartycam off and on, it finds the satellite fine and operates normally. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also noticed that GPS works fine based on seeing speed on the dash, but the lap indicator on the dash does not operate and the dash does not acquire data. Once I down loaded the video from the MicroSD card on the Smartycam, everything worked fine. Would having a full MicroSD result in the dash not recording data?

Very strange, but I would first make sure all of the latest firmware is loaded onto the MXL, the SmartyCam AND the GPS05.

Then, I would make sure that you load tracks to the SmartyCam and GPS05 using the LATEST version of GPS Manager and the latest version of SmartyManager. Both need to be of the latest release (even if you only use SmartyManager to load tracks) to avoid conflicts.

I've never run out of mSD space in the camera, so I don't know the answer to your last question, but it's easy enough to clear both the card and the MXL.

Best, Peter

I'm interested in what you've found. I have had a couple Smarty Cam GPS antennas fail. Maybe you've got one on the way out. Have you verified the firmware as Peter suggested?

Sorry for the silence, but I have been at the track. Unless the firmware has been updated in the last couple of mine, I have the latest update.

I suspect it may be the antenna, except I cannot figure out why re-setting the Smarty would bring the satellite back. During the race weekend, I had satellite when I left the paddock, but when I re-started the car on the grid, no satellite signal.
