I made a decision after driving both.

I liked both (obviously) for different reasons and I debated with myself a lot over the decision. And, after giving it a lot of thought, went with what felt "right" for me at this stage in my life. It was a tough decision to make!

Thanks, guys, for your input!

I passed on a white/lip stick red 996 TT, still regret that.

My feeling is that if you can afford $40-45K, you can afford the extra $20-25K to either get an '07 Turbo or an '09 997. Car will always be worth more on the back end.

(I've never understood "bang for the buck". Same as real estate--I can show you Bay Area value property in Oakland. But you'll be living in Oakland.........)

That's a ridiculous statement. There's a huge difference between spending $40-45k and spending $65-75k.

That's like saying "Anyone who can afford to spend $600k on a house can afford 1 million."

There's also a huge difference between living in a crap neighborhood in Oakland and a nicely maintained 996 twin turbo.
