I think this makes sense in general. What is the current FIA GT3 Porsche?

Porsche has the GT3-R that's FIA GT3 legal, but it won't be ran in USCR next year. Porsche has a nice surprise in store for GTD next year.. it'll be good.

Nice, hopefully leads to more variety in the GT ranks. Can't say I'll miss the Prep2 "silhouette" cars much.

Pure friggin awesomeness!!! Now if they can solve the LMP/Daytona prototype leveling, or better yet let the classes split, I think we might have ourselves a race!!!

It sounded like they said GTD would be about the same performance as GTC now, sounds like a lot of restrictors will be put on cars to keep the power down. Viper could pull 4 sparkplugs...

Not sure that is the best move cost wise. The current grand-am gt class is so expensive the entry numbers are pretty low. FIA Gt3 cars are even more expensive. My opinion is to let the manufacturers run team cars in GTLM and leave GTD for the privateers. I just hope 2 expensive GT class don't water down the entry sizes.

will GTD be pro/am, or could a true pro team (i.e. all pro drivers) enter there? I think that will determine if GT and GTD compete with each other.

They've announced that GTD will be Pro-Am, but they haven't announced any updates on the driver ranking system. The current ranking system makes it a joke.

They've also said that next years GTD pace target is very similar to GTC this year, which is way to slow IMO. But, that also means the new 991 based car isn't going to be as expensive as the old 997 Rolex GT car. It *also* means most people aren't going to go out and buy a new FIA GT3 car to run in the class because it'll be restricted down to the pace of a car that costs about half. However, the FIA GT3 cars might have slightly lower operating costs due to running far below their performance envelope.. you'll be able to get a lot of hours out of the motors before having to do anything.

Either way it'll be interesting next year.

Bingo.

I am friendly with the owner of Black Swan Racing in World Challenge and he has said repeatedly that the operating costs of his new SLS are incredibly reasonable. He is beyond thrilled about this news.
