Default Roll cage paint

Well... seems I need to have the non-complient roll-cage redone in my car. I'll probably be painting the cage myself to save spending more $$. I have the supplies to mix the cars' color for spraying, but really don't want to deal with all the masking prep-work and using those crappy Preval sprayers. Is there a good brush-on paint that will dry smooth and provide strong protection?

Rusto Hammer finish. Goes on easy, hides little stuff, dries fast and hard. Light coat then a just heavy enough coat to make the hammer finish form.

I like the Rusto Hammer finish too, but I have had some scruts not like it because it kinda hides stuff at welds and also adds some depth when measuring.
Currently I just use a simple flat spray on, easy and cheap.
Longest part is prep and tape n paper time.

Just curious, but how and what was found to be non compliant on your cage ? And what race organization found it non-compliant ?

Was wanting to avoid the huge masking off prep that spray requires, if I can get a good, hard finish with a brush on. Not sure yet which way I should go.

The cage was built off of a bolt-in roll bar that was already in the car and my focus at the time was just for a safe DE car with the possibility of racing down the road. I told the shop owner on 3 occasions that they could cut out the roll bar section if needed, to do the job right. He did not convey this to the cage builder. So in prepping the car for SM and going through the rules for NASA & SCCA I've found some issues with the design, along with some welds that don't inspire confidence. We could probably make modifications to meet the rules, but after talking with couple cage builders with good reputations and some SM friends; I kind-of determined it's best start over and have something safe & legal.

Smart thinking !
Safety should ALWAYS be of first concern.

I considered those, but I believe black is the only UV stable color that is available, unless you get the 2 parts system.

Simplest to install would be Sherwin Williams Industrial Enamel. Add a little Penetrol for flow control, i.e. slowing the dry time enough to allow the paint to 'lay down' - no brush marks. Mineral spirits clean up. They also sell SWP in quarts which should be plenty to do 2 coats if needed.
