Unhappy R.I.P.: another motorsports fatality

Italian driver Andrea Mame has died after an accident in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race at Paul Ricard this morning.

Mame was involved in a crash with four competitors at the start of the race.

All five drivers were taken to the medical centre for assessment. Organisers said Mame sustained serious injuries to which he later succumbed.

Mame was 41.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow racers. This summer has been a grim reminder of the dangers we confront in every race we run. Let's hope this flurry of tragedy ends quickly.

The North American contingent of this series is kicking off their season at Lime Rock this week.
All of these recent motorsport deaths will be on the mind of many of the drivers in ALMS, Pirelli World Challenge and the Lamborghini Trofeo. Thoughts and prayers to Andrea's family.

Man it's like the early 1970's all over again...

But to be honest I can't believe there are not more indy (oval) and Rally driver deaths.
Catch fencing is still a disaster always waiting to happen and stone walls are still hard.

these are both sad and unfortunate events, but the sport is nothing like the early '70's.
There is so much more participation presently, at all levels, that comparisons are invalid.
We're much safer now than ever.
