Sauber's wheel looks all kinds of fancy compared to Kimi's wheel:

I can't even remember to check my temperature gauge when I'm driving. No way I could use that thing.

Interesting how during the Canada F1 race yesterday a driver (can't remember name) was asked to enter a specific code to reset his DRS enable which was not working. All while driving at full speed. It makes me wonder if some of the stupid moves in F1 are related to info overload as much as pure driver error.

I have had the same thought. If you watch carefully during in-car camera shots of the cars doing pit stops, the drivers are punching a very large combination of buttons and switching dials during the 3 seconds they are stopped in the pits. So it has to be equally crazy on track IMO.

99 out of 100 times they replace the steering wheel after a crash. When someone slams the wheel or throws it I grit my teeth.

The "jenson button" is hilarious.

Indeed, it's quite impressive...

My wife confirmed my suspicions while watching that bit, as to which finger she'd use to "confirm" if I radioed that request to her during a race...

I can't imagine doing all that; even in my slow-*** DSR, I'm way too busy most of the time for anything except bright lights... and sometimes those aren't even enough!

Certainly, one reason why they have to spend so much time in the simulators during off season. You can't afford more than a glance at the wheel to confirm which button/switch you to manipulate at that speed.

A couple things to consider too is these ***** and dials are soooo small and these guys are wearing gloves to manipulate them!

Then you have the brake bias on a lever down by your legs and God forbid if you flat spot a tire and you have massive vibration, can you imagine trying to change settings with that?
