Default Orange county racing - Just got my 1st porsche

I'm not looking to get super serious into the racing because I figure the cost associated with racing regularly is insane. What I would like to do is try it out and get to know my porsche better. Then depending on the cost I can go from there

I just bought a 2011 C2S. I was considering joining the PCA, but I was wondering what other people thought before I did anything. I don't want to do an serious mods to my car, leaving it stock is my goal.

Anyone in SoCal know much about it and can give me some direction?

You should join PCA. Don't worry about racing at this point, start with DE, see how it goes. Have fun with your "new" car!

I would recommend POC in that region. PCA is nice in SoCal but you will either drive on high-speed tracks (which can be scary at first) or in parking lots (autocross - one lap at a time).

POC has a series called PDS, which starts you off with driving clinics and then continuous lapping on slower tracks (shorter straights, etc.) - it's the best introduction to performance driving but then again my opinion is also based on my personal experience with both organizations.

PCA in and around Orange county has several clubs. I am in San Diego Region.
Autocross will get you very familiar with car control at low to medium speeds, even though it will appear to be in a parking lot.
Autocross has very low risk of damage compared to getting on track.
I recommend that you get familiar with your car's capabilities with autocross first. Once you get a good taste of that, all of the local PCA clubs offer DE/TT to move you into higher speed track events.
Autocross and DE allow you to learn your car's limits with little to no modification.

Even if this weekend is too short of notice to enter the event for you, I would encourage you to join us for a few hours and see what it's all about. You can talk to a couple dozen other first timers and ask them about their experience and instructors.

During the lunch hour on Sunday we have free "parade laps" of the track available with a max speed of 55mph, no passing.

If you do enter, we have a dozen brand new loaner helmets for 2013 available(FREE) and the only safety requirements to enter are a long sleeve shirt, pants, and close toed shoes.

+1

work yourself up with some DE experience. Upgrade the car with some safety items as you develop your experience.

+1 - Auto Cross is a good way to get confidence in your car safely with minimal consequences and expense. PCA Orange Coast has a great Auto Cross Series http://www.pcaocr.com/?page=1&cats=1
POC is a great way to go once you have a foundation of car control.
I am a member of both, and appreciate each for different reasons. Even though racing is my primary passion, I will go to auto cross to keep up my car control driving skills.
Hope you see you out there. There is an Auto Cross this Sunday at El Toro.
PM me if you have any questions.

Have fun and congrats on your new P-car!!

POC is a good option, but so is PCA.
Orange Coast Region does events at El Toro and there are Zone 8 events From Buttonwillow to Willow Springs to Chuckwalla. Yes the Auto Club Speedway oval is very fast but there are also infield only events for beginners.
