Default Indy 500 tips

I have been given some tickets to the Indy 500 and was seeking some tips on the whole event. I am in a suite, however there is no access to the pits. Is this normal?

I guess they have a Legends day on Saturday. Has anyone attended that?

Any advice on the whole affair?

Although I've missed two races, I've not missed a month of May at Indianapolis since I first starting going in 1977. It is not typical to get pit passes with a suite ticket. That being said, if someone purchased the whole suite there are likely a few pit passes in someone's possession. I've not been to legends day before, but if you have followed the sport for a while, it is worth going to see some of the older drivers. Personally, I would rather be downtown at the parade which follows the autograph session on legends day (not really possible to do both). If you love racing, my advice would be to get into Indianapolis on Thursday and go to the Hoosier 100 out at the fairgrounds. Friday is Carb Day at the track with the final practice pit stop competition and the Indy Lights race (sit in turn one E-stand). There is a concert after the track activities that can be quite entertaining (the crowd, not the bands). I'm not sure what is available on Friday evening (it use to be the Hoosier 100). On Saturday night go to Anderson and see the Little 500 (33 sprint cars for 500 laps) or go out to Raceway Park (Lucas Oil Raceway) and see the FF2000, Star Mazda and the USAC Midgets (USAC Midgets was the best racing last year). On Sunday, get to the track early for the race. Tons of tradition and pomp and circumstance (bands, celebrities, driver interviews, gordon pipers). Have a blast. PM me if you have any specific questions.

If you don't have a police escort into the track, park at the airport and take the shuttle bus in. your blood pressure will thank you.

have fun! I love the 500. greatest sporting event on the planet (LeMans being a close second)

Make sure you schedule time before race day for the museum in the infield. It is a must do.
