Default New toy. First HPDE (POC PDS) next weekend. What have I done? ;)

Super happy to have brought that home last weekend.

BODY/INTERIOR
• Factory Arrow Blue paint over bare metal (July 2011)
• Factory no sunroof
• Carrera steel rear fender flares
• AIR fiberglass IROC whale tail, hood, F&R bumpers
• F&R new glass rubber
• RS-style door panels/pulls
• Rennline deadpedal
• Bolt in roll bar with harness brace
• 2- Corbeau FX1 Pro seats on adjustable track
• 2- Crow 5-way cam lock harnesses
• Momo 350mm steering wheel
• Odyssey 15 lb battery
• 2.5 lb fire extinguisher mounted for TT
• Custom Silverguard CoverkingCar Cover

ENGINE/DRIVELINE
• Valve job, rod rebuild w/ARP bolts, lower steel 993 head studs (Kinninger, May 2012)
• Performance Products (1 5/8”) headers
• K&N Air filter
• Mazda aluminum front cooler, braided oil lines
• Rebuilt 915 trans (Kinninger July 2011)
• Quaife limited slip, Seine gate shifter

SUSPENSION/BRAKES
• Smart Racing Products F&R torsion bars (24 & 33mm)
• Adjustable spring plates
• Bilstein custom valved shocks
• Turbo tie rods
• Elephant poly-bronze front bushings
• Weltmeister F camber plates
• Tarret Aluminum F strut brace
• Adjustable 22 mm F & R sway bars
• Brake caliper rebuild & rotors (August 2012)
• Pagid Black/Orange pads
• Front brake ducting
• Braided brake lines
• Long studs and spacers

Couple minor things to get sorted:

Seeped some gas around sender(?) while filling up on the way home, only noticed it because front trunk was open. PO's mechanic said there is a cork gasket that can go bad and cause this?

Vibration at 70ish. Seems to come and go (even traveling from one side of the steering wheel to the other), even when no discernable speed or surface change. The Fuchs have RA1s with a fair amount of marble build up on them. Could be this or a thrown weight?

7x8x16 choice in 225/50 245/45 is super limited. Thinking about going up to 17 for tire choice, what do people like up there for a track safe wheel that wont break the bank?

Need seats that fit me, anyone know if the Cobra Suzuka GT (e.g. fatboy seat) will fit 2 wide in a 76? I know the Evo3 shoulders are too wide to do so.

Assuming you can resolve the vibration issue, and the tires are in good shape, try it on the current tires. Should give you a good sense of what the car wants to do. And if this is your first time on track, it may slow you down a bit, which is no bad thing.

You're not too far from Wheel Enhancement (Culver City, I think), so when you're ready, you could give them a call. If you get a halo seat, get a passenger side mirror.

Last, great looking car! Have fun.

I think the tires might be good enough to last the weekend. I do know Wheel Enhancement, I'll pop over there and see if they can help me sort the vibration and sanity check if the tires are safe for a weekend.

It is my first time on track in my own car, but i have a few days worth of karting, driving schools, and "porsche road show" events in my past. I also have delusions and will be taking it easy with or without old tires

Halo seat isn't in the cards, just plus-size friendly Cobra buckets for now. I wont have that sorted before next weekend, so I'll start in a stock seat/3 point w/ Corbeau & harnesses for instructor.

Thanks man! Shoulda listened the first time round, but my impatience and experience with the leaky 77 was still a net good one. Didn't take too much of a hit on it, and it's off to an excited new owner in MN. Glad a find just what I was looking for this time round!

As you wish. Here's an album from the previous owner (Frank from SD) from the build and it's adventures! Kudos to him and Mark/Black Forrest on the build!

Thanks! I'll try to find you, but don't hesitate to say hi. I'll be the beginner with the bright blue car and massive unkempt beard.

Check the DE FAQ and tech form carefully; many clubs require the same type seat and restraints for both driver and instructor.

Beautiful car.

Fair point but AFAIK, most regs/ettiquette call for the instructor to have the same or better safety equipment than the driver. E.g. it would be an issue if driver had bucket/restraints but instructor had stock/3pt but I would be surprised if they were upset that I was providing them _better_ equipment than I'm using.

Pretty sure Eric, the PDS chair, posts around here. Maybe he'll weigh in.

Update: Took it over to WE this morning. Seems like it most likely was the rubber build up. We tried balancing one wheel but it was so out of balance they wouldn't be able to fix with wheel weights. They felt like the tires would barely get me through the weekend, so we decided not to waste time chasing it down and ordered a set of Bridgestone RE11A. It's a slight downgrade in fitment from 225/245 to 205/225 but they informed me the contact patch is a common (even OEM?) fitment for the 7x8x16s.

Tires arrive and will be mounted/balanced tomorrow. Hopefully that will sort the vibration issue
