Does every debate belong in OT? At its core this thread is about people's perception of racing but because this article has a racial tinge to it we should be afraid to discuss it here?

Sometimes to get to a hard truth you have to look at the facts. Aside from the Asians I rarely see people who are not white at track days. What does it mean?

I am not impressed by this statement:

"It's not that he looks like that councilman or anything like that!!"

What does that have to do with anything Scott?

My points have included:

1. I choose not to take a position on these things based on scarce information and sound bites.

2. I am not surprised a politician has stated something stupid in public. Racist or not. Happens all the time.

3. The interface between government and business on these types of things can be complex.

I am not on the side of this politician or against him. I do not have enough information to make a judgement.

There are many internet forums where these kinds of things are discussed. I am sure there are more forums on topics related to stuff like that than there are to enjoying Porsche ownership.

Here, I could surmise that some of the early postings relate to possible feelings I have seen expressed from time to time that racist or potentially racist comments from a non-white person often get overlooked or forgiven in our society, and that is unfair or wrong.

If so, this is a complex topic in my opinion. More complex than a discussion of technical differences between Porsche 911 trailing arm, multi-link (in its various forms) and double wishbone suspensions? I don't know.

I am not even sure whether I want a double wishbone front suspension on my race car.

Context, Mike, context. Look at the post I quoted......my comment was a "tongue in cheek" comment in response to a "tongue in cheek" comment.

Let's get real here. If a white councilman in a predominantly white city had said that he was not interested in funding an event run by black people because no one making decisions was white, what do you think would happen?

Racism is racism.

And it's as ugly as can be.

The more important question is why would it matter? And why would anyone care? There is really no reason other than to differentiate which is the basis of racism, which is the irony of this whole thread.

It belongs in OT. Mods please move it, I'm kinda sick of seeing it.

I don't agree with you but of course the mods have the ability to make their own decision.

It's also small minded to say "i'm kinda sick of seeing it" and requesting a move. There are tons of threads that don't interest me and I just don't click on them.

As long as everyone stays in line its an interesting debate and discussion. Sweeping it under the rug (or into RLOT) doesn't change anything.

If it offends the simple minded and those who don't want to think past their own little world, it should be in OT/PC. The entire thread is based on a comment by a black guy who thinks money shouldn't go to things white people do. Pretty simple.

I like it being here and look forward to my daughters thoughts as she reflects on the various views...she just drove the spec miata last week for the first time. Perhaps she will comment after she formulates an opinion. Somebody should forward Hoyt the thread soon.

I just emailed the thread to Hoyts Assistant.
Hopefully he will read it and respond, would likely be good for everyone.

That must be a function of where you live maybe?

Our chapter of PCA and our general location is pretty diverse.
