Race Audio on Video

Yup. If you have an aim system and want to capture the audio using a chatterbox. I'm interested in the original item the OP posted. This one interfaces with a racing radios system and is quite a bit more money.

Ordering the 4m Cable
Peter, do you have a 4 meter version of this cable available? If so, how much is it and how can I get money to you? Also, do you use a standard two-pole M-M microphone cable to connect the TVC-15 to the Bider cable? Thanks to you, Rick and I/O Port for a GREAT setup!!!

Toby, I haven't had those since the HD came out, but if you'll check with Roanoke, Virginia distributor, they may be able to help. I'll ask around as well. Speak to Mike or Cameron.

Peter,
Please let us know when they make that cable available for the SCHD. In the meantime, if it's not ready for the start of the season, what would be needed? You are all talking chinese to me, so I need this explain like I'm 6 yo.
Thanks
c.

Three Wheelin'
I/O Port has recently added some items to our menu. Customers have been raving about our Radio to Camera Interface, the TVC15. Priced at $199.95, the 10% discount applies. This unit will allow you to record the communications between the driver, pit crew and spotters with your in-car video camera. The ambient sounds in the car are also captured with a remote microphone. It works with all brands of race radios utilizing a standard 5-pin connector harness (or 4-conductor IMSA or NASCAR connectors are also available at an extra charge).
Imagine hearing all of the spotters’ information, the pit crew’s comments, and all of the driver’s intended (and unintended) comments. The ambient sounds in the car will be clean, without all the wind noise common with many cameras’ built-in microphones. Use your in-car video for sharing and for driver and crew improvement. Your in-car videos will sound so much better!

Resurrecting an old thread here....
Rick, Jerry or Peter..... any recommendations on placement of the external mic in a Cup Car? I'm going to install my TVC-15 in line with my radio and connect to my older SmartyCam this weekend in preparation for the Club Race at College Station. And never having enough "toys", I *also* plan to plug in my SmartyCam HD and get two versions of video. I've updated the firmware on both cameras and the MXL dash to current versions, and have a DataHub to plug in the various pieces and parts.
So now all I need is a suggestion on mic placement. Anyone care to offer up their experiences?

In my 993, which has full (RS) interior and both front seats, I literally laid the mic on the rear seat cushion, which seemed to work as well as anywhere else.
I think it is important to keep it away from wind noise, but even that problem can be minimized with foam around the mic. Perhaps also not laying right on a metal panel.
But beyond that, all I can suggest is that you experiment.
Or better yet, Peter will probably have a suggestion or 2.
Have fun at the race; apparently you also like to plug stuff in (me too).

For those interested in a DIY solution using a GoPro and a I/O Port TVC-15, you can find a how-to starting from page 20 here:

Appears as though external audio will be an option in the new SC GP HD.
