Finally I have a sample video from the I/O Port Racing Camera/Communicator Interface to share. Thanks to Ken at I/O Port for providing me with the protoype and Peter Krause for getting me a connector at the last moment.
Here is a link to the (short) video:
Here is the link to the product: http://www.ioportracing.com/Merchant...gory_Code=IOPP
You will also need the appropriate cables, which I/O Port can guide you through (I needed an Aim cable).
I used the Interface for the Chatterbox version, but there is a similar product for race communications.
I wanted to capture the great coaching I have been getting from pros like Dave Scott and Peter Argetsinger as well as my fellow instructors. This does it.
Demo day was rainy so you will be watching me slowly make my way around Watkins Glen while chatting with Peter. I am a bit chatty, so bear with me.
Great product at a reasonable price. Worked fine right out of the box.
Suggestions:
* I needed an Aim cable and did not realize it had to run all the way to the dash; get one long enough to reach!
* Interface becomes the new audio source so you need to switch the camera audio to external microphone; I have gotten a new mic (from Ken) so all I have to do is plug/unplug rather than reset the camera audio (that is, I can leave the camera audio set to external mic and just plug in the Interface or the external mic).
Have fun - glad to answer any questions if I can.

No need, fellas. Your solution for integrating this into SmartyCam recording is here: http://www.aim-sportline.com/downloa...Ext_SC_eng.pdf

Toby, I'll PM you, but yes, a standard moving magnet microphone is fine.

Peter, do you have a 4 meter version of this cable available? If so, how much is it and how can I get money to you? Also, do you use a standard two-pole M-M microphone cable to connect the TVC-15 to the Bider cable? Thanks to you, Rick and I/O Port for a GREAT setup!!!
Toby
A new problem for HD users, though - Smarty HD does not have an external mic input. AiM says they just need to build the cable, but who knows when that will happen.
Figures - I spec a Smarty HD for the new car and may not be able to record the audio of Spencer spurring me on.
I wonder if there is an alternative source for the AiM cable?

Peter, yes, I have the original SmartyCam *for now*! Am looking at the HD version (a Rennlister has one for sale right now). If I go ahead with that purchase, will I *not* be able to use the TVC15? Could you let me know?

Toby, the TVC-15 works with the original SmartyCam and SmartyCam GP. The TVC15 does NOT currently work with the SmartyCam HD.

Any idea whether AiM will adapt the SC-HD to support a remote mic?
I *did* buy that SC-HD from a fellow Rennlister, and *have* received my TVC-15. Would sure like to use *both* of my new toys..... Can you offer functional improvement "suggestions" to the team in Italy?

Yes, Toby, I do convey our collective desire!
They took away two pins on the camera that performed that function, so the solution will need to be AiM CAN based...

I assume something like this can be used instead of the io/port for racing radio systems. Plus it requires 12v, so you can hardwire it into the car and not have to worry about batteries. Might make a nice project for someone. Lots of good information on radio systems here on the connectors and pinouts. http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Race_Radios

I suppose you'd need a 3 channel mixer. 1 for radio mic, 1 for radio speaker and 1 for external microphone.
I'm sure there are several portable mixers that would do the trick.
