Rick, thanks for the call. I'll let you know what I find out with my HJC-50 and this cable.
Upon study of the Chatterbox, I believe we are screwed by the fact that the 3.5mm plug is for an iPod INPUT to the Chatterbox, not an audio out. Will follow up.

Thank you, Peter - nice to put a voice with a name.
In the meantime I received a call from IOPort (source of the original post).
They are making a Chatterbox version of the TVC15 (which is for radios but can also be used with Chatterbox) and I am going to try the prototype (Chatterbox only). Should be able to report back after Cups and Saucers early May.
Here is what is said on the IOPort site (under the TVC15 listing): New, Chatterbox edition available soon; please call 1-800-949-5712 for more information.

With that version, you will be able to use the AIM cable I referenced. There is no audio OUTput from the Chatterbox otherwise.

Would the new chatterbox plug make it any easier? You could probably get a splitter and put one into the SC and one into the chatterbox. Something like this maybe http://compare.ebay.com/like/120988455973?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

Yes, looks like the IOPort product will require me to buy a separate AiM cable (the one you referenced above), so once you get your supply in, let me know and I will call you with ordering information.

My I/O Port ChatterBox to Camera interface has been built and is on its way to me just in time for Cups and Saucers at Watkins Glen. I will be using it to capture the audio feed from the ChatterBox and record it onto my SmartyCam.
I also have the appropriate AiM cable on its way and should have it next week so I can get this new rig set up. Which cable you use depends upon which camera you use. For Smarty, this is supposed to be the right cable: http://www.aim-sportline.com/downloa...Ext_SC_eng.pdf
Cable is in short supply but there will be more.
Thanks to Ken at I/O Port, who was very patient with me as I tried to figure this out, and to Peter Krause (ProCoach) for identifying the proper cable.

They also have a more expensive version for radios, but the ChatterBox version is $65. Cable is roughly the same cost.
I'll report the results.

So, I now have the pieces but haven't tested them yet.
One thing to note, though, is the AiM cable will replace the current cable that runs from the SmartyCam to the data logger (dash), rather than just extend the current cable.
I ordered the 2 meter cable not realizing it would have to reach the dash.
So - you might want to get the 4 meter version of AiM's cable.
I think/hope I can make it work for Cups next week. If not, I need a source for a Binder 712 male/female connector (that would allow me to plug the new cable into the existing cable rather than run the new cable all the way to the dash). Suggestions for a source would be much appreciated.
More later!

Rick,
How did your experiment run? Were you able to capture your audio onto your SmartyCam video? This may be the next "improvement" on the Cup!
