I've driven Michelin cups below 40 degress for the first run or two. It will be like driving on ice for the first couple of laps, and I'm not exagerating. Think Lime Rock in March and April.

Not many tires work in those temps, and you will have to over drive them to bring them up in temp.

Bob, will you be at the Glen for the Clash? What about the week prior? I will be there Sunday-Sunday this year

I agree about the "never know what you're going to get" perspective. Sometimes you'll get a solid deal, other times you'll get skunked. Sure it all evens out. But it's a real bite in the butt when you get skunked and basically waste money on useless tires along with the mount & balance costs. Can really make for a sucky DE day when you go into it with the expectation of having some fun with a "new" set of tires and come to find they blow.

Agreed, but I have found this happens more if you are buying just one set at a time. I try to have 3 or 4 sets on hand (at least 2 mounted at any time), so I am more comfortable that I'll have something to drive that weekend. That being said, I have also had to buy sticker tires at the track when everything had issues (blown tires, flat spot, off track issues, etc).

I'll be there for Cups and Saucers. After that I'm not sure.

I'm not crazy about risking the car at the Glen. Don't need to race but can't stop driving.

Would love giving or getting coaching if that opportunity came, but we will see how the Lime Rock race works out.

Default Pirelli DH &DM

Someone wanted to know the difference between these two Pirelli slick models.According to my tire guy the DH is the hard and the DM is the medium compound .Someone else said that the DH lasted longer which makes perfect sense considering the compound differences .Does anyone know where the P Zero slick sits in all this in terms of grip and longevity?TIA HOM

FYI Bob Chick has retired and now spends most of his time fishing.

I used his in the past and always had great luck with used Yoko and Michelin slicks.

The original source. Began buying from him in the early '90's. Good guy.

Bob Chick worked for Woodman, then out on his own. Fun guy to hang with.

Agreed which is why you should test & setup the car on reasonably fresh rubber. But after that, I think there's lots to learn shuffling around on used slicks to a point. The OP asked about 16 hc's or something crazy like that. If you get 8 decent cycles then they're worth the cost but after that you're just running on luck...

He's not asking about racing on them....
