A number of years ago, went to an event with the STL BMWCCA - a student was so bad had to ask the dude to leave. Freaked out two of the instructors and ran two other students off track. Unreal.

At any of our tracks that would have been a wreck.

I was at an event 5 or 6 years ago at Lime Rock. I'm behind a woman is in a brand new M3 with an instructor. First lap under yellow and all is okay. 2nd lap goes green and on no name the woman freaks out. I see the instructor reach over and grab the wheel. The woman has her head (helmet) in her hands with her hands covering her eyes. Car is still going. Takes until front straight for instructor to get her to stop with him steering the entire time. Talk to him after and he says she was frozen - including her foot on the gas. Couldn't get her to stop freaking out and brake until main straight.

My personal favorite experience was when I had an 80 year old that had never been on the track before with a borrowed 911 SC from a friend he had never driven in a monsoon at LRP. His hands were shaking so badly in the paddock that I had to do the chin strap of his helmet. He went around the track at 10mph (for which I was thankful).

Those are good ones Sean.

At LRP several years back, we had a novice-solo guy in a BMW who hit a novice-instructed under the initial all yellow out lap. He said the person was going too slow so he initiated a pass. DOUCHEBAG.

How about student shifting and giving a passing signal at the same time !!! Let's see- that leaves no hands on the wheel !!

Great British understatement.

If I had the presence of mind I like to think I would have yanked the parking brake and/ or cranked the wheel to initiate a spin. Either that or I would have unbuckled and bailed.

It's stories like these posted here that causes me to not want to be an instructor.

I used to love instructing motorcycle riders on the track, but my life was never really in their hands. There was this one time at Sears Point when my student almost took me out in turn 11. He slid by right behind me with his bike's front tire hitting my bike's rear tire. I stayed up and he was done for the day.....
