Default Fuel during Sandy

No hi test fuel available. Car requires 93. Should octane boost be used ? I always stayed away from additives. What is proper way to enhance regular pump fuel?

For the R32? Or Racecar?

If R32 for street ... Just run it on 87 ... it'll pull back timing and protect the engine.

Toluene seems to be the most popular way to boost the octane rating. Little bottles of Octane Boost don't do anything.

Or, depending on where you are, head into CT, NY or PA to get some 93.

Into CT you've got to get up into Stratford before gas is easily available without lines. In Stamford there is gas, but some lines....nothing like NJ though. Gotta get off the major highways to find it without lines either way.

Thank you- Yes for the aging R32. The thought of detonation was firing in my mind .

It will run fine on 91 octane especially in cooler weather. There is some evidence that certain octane boosters are harmful to catalytic converters. Not sure it is true, it is anecdotal.

Cooler weather increases octane requirements (more oxygen in the air/higher density).
