SoloDL/RaceStudio2 Analysis - how do you slice it?
The software has so many facets, I'm sure we all use it differently. Doubtlessly many use it properly, others of us are just poking around
Thought it might be useful to post up a few screen grabs for comment and illustration ... track: Killarney Raceway, Cape Town
MK's best lap - 996 GT3Cup mkI - 1.19.1
GK's best lap - 996 GT3 stripper mkI - 1.18.3
Amazing to see that while the times are 'quite' close - GK has much better corner speed (just trail braking?) and tends to pull ahead into the corner
losing coming out - they way these two drive the track is totally different.
>Look how much less blue(slow) GK has in corners, ex T3 & 4
>Also note how much later his Red shows up on the home straight due to his late breaking approach to T5
(other analysis show the difference at that point was closer to 1.6sec)
A few things that are relevant:
1. tires - same, dunlop slicks, new
2. wet weights - GK 100kg heavier than MK (due to car, driver )
3. GK more aero ie higher wing, real splitter, dive planes; MK stock 01 aero
4. GK: 20 years track experience - bikes, dirt-track, DE, Racing
MK: 4 DE, 1 Racing
But i guess that's what makes a race - similar tools, very different application! What else do you see?

I'd like to see the data files from both sessions to make a comparison. It's difficult to make judgments from those speed charts. I think you have my e-mail address.

How's the best way to really learn to use the data? Anybody near Ohio going to have a data seminar this winter?

I'm hoping to attend Matt's session in early Nov and am considering inviting you to Florida in January for a session. Hopefully we can discuss in NH.

I look forward to it Jerry! Btw, I will be in Jacksonville, FL this coming Saturday for an AiM Sports data seminar. You and anybody else in the area are invited!! It will be a great time.

I find the maps like you posted fun to look at, but harder to analzye. Here is what one of my screens looks like. IMHO, the ultimate channel is speed - the rest just tell us how we did it. So I like to compare speeds and see where on the track the differences are. With that, I can then look and see if it's a braking, steering, throttle, etc issue.
The other thing I really like is the time compare graph (shown under the speed graph). That is really helpful becuase it will tell you exactly where an how much time you lost. Then you know right where to hone in on.

Thanks Matt! I use that screen setup too - I was trying to hone in on the differences and that's how I got to this map - colors are speeds - to try investigate the differences more. I'd like to use g's but not sure accelerometers are calibrated.
What amazes me is if you look at T1 - gk is going 160 when mk is going 103! I mean the degree of the later braking is amazing! Means GK gets out of the tight corners slower but means he has the faster entry into the first turn ie gets in front.

Later braking is much easier to see on the speed vs time chart rather than the color charts you have above. I've not found much good use for those color charts, maybe Peter or Roger can give some insight on those.

I also wrote about it at http://www.trailbrake.net/2/post/201...-overlays.html.

Here's one for you: by making a "Combined G" math channel - the square root of longitudinal acceleration squared plus lateral acceleration squared - I can plot that on the track map and see how well I'm trailbraking into corners.
