Default Need helping making sense on what class for Club Racing

I am thinking about trying out club racing at Sebring this year and need help on making sense of rule book on what class I would be in???

The car is an 84 911 Euro Widebody with Iroc Bumper and Tail.
Weighs approx 2400 lbs.
993 Brakes.
Coilover suspension
Bolt in cage.
Stock motor and front oil cooler.

Thanks for the help!

Greg a US wide body 3.2 Carrera of your year would be an Stock E car, the rules require a Euro version to move up one class so you would move to F due to that, the move up one class would also include your 993 brakes. You also need to be at a weight of 2799 including car, driver and race equipment and any ballast.
You could also choose to run as a GT class car where basically it is determined by weight and displacement.

Because of the coilovers he is a GT car, no way a stock class car.

The quick and easy answer is GT-5 (and 2900 lbs with driver minimum weight for a 3.2).

Your car would start in Stock F class as Rich noted above. The big brakes make it a Prepared G car. The coilovers make it a GT car.

You might want to consider putting the good ole torsion bars back on and racing in G class. Or better yet, reinstall the torsion bars AND the 930 brakes and race in F class (at 2800 lbs with driver). Your car has some potential in F class, but not in G and certainly not in GT.

Ok, so it sounds like I need to rethink this with the current setup.
Would going back to the 930 brakes help to get into G or is the main sticking point the coil overs (which I assume it is).

The other option would be to install a different motor in the car.

The third is to buy a E/F or G class car, probably would be same or less for a decent motor in the car.

Go to a few races, see which class you like. Then get the best ride you can for that class.

Yes the coilovers are the sticking point. Coilovers on a Carrera = GT. If you are married to those, then you need another motor (as you pointed out). And you can definitely buy an E or F class car for less than the price of a race motor.

The stock 930 brakes are more than adequate for that car. Just ask anybody racing an SC or Carrera in E class using the stock go-kart brakes.

24/34 torsion bars with revalved Bilsteins + 930 brakes and you have a pretty good F class car.

Jack
Wouldn't he still be in G prepared with the 930 brakes on a Euro 3.2 with torsion bars? (F prepared with a US 3.2?)

The "Turbo-look" cars came stock with 930 brakes... which is why, after the new minimum weight, the turbo-look cars have become much more attractive. You get (much) better brakes and a wider rear wheel without having to bump up a class in Prepared.

That sounds like an excellent idea.

Sounds like I am starting to plan for an E/F and on the outside chance a G car in the next 12 months. Hope to make the 48 hours in 2014. Will be doing the DE this year so I can get a better feel for classes and cars out there.
Thanks for the help with the info and Chris if I had the cash I would be making a trip to Lex to look at the car.

No problem. Another thing you can do is look at the lap times from recent Sebring club races (available at pca.org) for the various classes you are considering and compare them to what you can do in your current car. This will give you an idea of where you might end up in the pack.

From about 2380 to 2900lbs, including you, your car would class in GT-4. To be competitive you will need to be at the lower end of that range with a motor putting out at least 100hp per liter.

Good luck!
