Default F1 Austin GP parking options?

Hi all,

I received an FYI email from COTA informing me that parking passes are available for the GP (at 200 effing bucks).

I'm not familiar with the greater Austin area but will have a rental car so I wanted to ask if anyone knows what parking options there are, or if we'll be stuck having to pay for the weekend pass (not sure if we'll be able to be there all three days).

We have some great seats but alas are not going to be situated with the PCA over in T12.

Thanks!
Collin

I thought they were going to have some park and ride things setup. It will probably suck but thats I what I plan to do. I just can't imagine paying $200 to fight traffic to and from the track.

A group of us coming from Denver would like to trailer our motorcycles down but only if we are given a parking option that treats MC's differently than cars and doesn't cost 2 bills. Hopefully that info comes out soon. Otherwise the pickup will arrive at the gate with 10 guys/girls in it.

Well, even the $200 option seems to be irrelevant. I followed the link in the email from COTA and it says tickets (for parking) are not available. I'm not sure if they are sold out or what, but this whole thing is a clusterf@$k.

Here's the current info on parking/shuttles from the COTA site:

Q: Can I purchase on-site parking?

A: On-site parking is available with premium seating options, such as personal seat licenses with season tickets. For information on premium seating options, contact the Circuit of The Americas Sales Team Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CDT at 512.301.6600. At this time, on-site parking for the 2012 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX™ is limited to those customers who have purchased premium seating for the event.

Q: How do I purchase shuttle transportation?

A: Round-trip shuttle transportation is included in the price of your three-day grandstand bleacher seat or three-day general admission ticket.

Q: Where are the shuttle bus Park-And-Ride locations?

A: There will be two designated shuttle bus park-and-ride locations in the greater Austin area. Shuttle bus pick-up/drop-off locations include the corner of 15th Street and Trinity Street in downtown Austin and the Travis County Fair and Expo Center at 7311 Decker Lane.

Well the wheels are starting to come off. Got the email yesterday that parking was now available, link does not work, called COTA on hold for 1/2 hr. listening to some heavy breathing recording, was 4th in line then 3rd in line then 1st in line all to end up with an answering machine for the operator. This does not look good for a smooth event if they can't even get the parking straight can you imagine the bus transportation issues.

Parking challenges were from TicketMaster. The link was published and then TicketMaster couldn't get their site to work. Was able to secure my T12 parking pass around 5:30P PDT yesterday.

Toby,
Are you referring to the COTA email or the PCA-specific parking? I couldn't get the COTA option to work on the ticketmaster site this morning.

I purchased the PCA based Parking Lot H tix earlier today.

I'm in SW Austin (Circle C) -- if anyone would like to carpool for the weekend
I'd love to defray the costs of the parking ticket.

Will probably do the Salt Lick GTG as well.

LMK,

Mike

Can not figure out why this track have such a problem with basic issues like roads in and out. Make no sense. My father say maybe best bet after helicopter would be to have start digging tunnels from land next to circuit some months back.

We bought one to hedge our bets............the $200 was worth it to us as this is a once in a lifetime trip for us.

Thanks for all the responses; looks like I'll need to chat with the missus about this.

Out of curiosity, is anyone aware of any nearby establishments selling their own parking? Not sure what is actually nearby (if anything) but oftentimes at events like this the neighboring areas will sell their own non-affiliated parking.

I'm just not sure if we'll be able to be there for all three days, and $100 or $200 per day for just parking seems a bit ridiculous.

Got some more thinkin' to do...
