GRAND-AM / ALMS MERGER, 2013 ROLEX GX CLASS AND CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT HAVE THINGS BUZZING AT BGB MOTORSPORTS

TUNE-IN ALERT – LIVE ROLEX PRESS CONFERENCE FROM DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA @ http://www.Grand-Am.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 5, 2012 (Ormond Beach, FL) – Rumors of a long anticipated merger between the two sports car racing series in North America, the American Le Mans Series and the Grand American Road Racing Series have fans, teams and drivers hanging on the edge of their seats, awaiting a press conference from Daytona Beach, FL at 10:00am, EST this morning. With what sounds to be the most logical step for the future survival of sports car racing in North America, have many wondering how the new series will look, who will go where and who will not come back. One thing for sure though is that fans, teams and drivers can focus on one series in North America that will now include a full sweep of potential running of the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 1000KM Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta. Grand-Am personnel have never visited Le Mans, Sebring and Petit Le Mans in Grand-Am attire as they have been American Le Mans Series Events. Expenses will be cut and hopefully venues won’t be terrible affected.

For teams such as BGB Motorsports that currently lead the GS Driver’s Championship in the most hotly contested series in North America, this means a step to a bigger show. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series has some of the most robust fields in its history. Being potentially part of something bigger has them excited because they know that the CTSCC series will survive for seasons to come:

“I’m not sure how this will all shake out, as the devil is always in the details as they say. The inquiries have already started and our January and the rest of our 2013 could get very interesting and potentially very busy with 2014 planning starting now. Last month the announcement of the Rolex Series’ GX Class has given birth to the idea of running a 3.8 liter DFI engine in a Cayman at the Rolex 24 Hour. Now it could mean that in 2014 it could be the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Petit Le Mans in an economically built baby GT car that is based on our former Grand-Am Caymans. All of us are curious. Lately people are calling a lot and with our 991 R&D program for the GS car under way for 2013, things are about to be busier than ever.”

The final 2 rounds of the season take Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series teams across the country to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California on September 7 – 8, 2012 before returning back across country to Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Connecticut on September 27 – 28, 2012 where someone will be crowned champion.

Fans of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series may view this weekend’s race on http://www.Speed2.com September 8th @ 5:30pm, ET.
