Default D guys! Suspension setting changes when going to 15" short rear tires

Hi,

I just put on some BRAID 15 x 9" wheels on the back of my '73 911 with Hoosier 275/35 tires. Man the car is low! Gearing is really low now too. Should be fast at the Lime Rock vintage festival this weekend.

Did you need to change any settings like swaybar, camber, or ride height when putting these tires on the rear? I have been, and am still running 225/45/15 on the front on 8" Fuchs.

Thanks for any info as I don't have much time for testing.

The rear is likely as much as 1-1.5" lower than it was (depending on what tire you used to use). You will need to lower the front to equal this out (and maintain the proper rake).

I wouldn't change the camber or sway bar.

Let us know where you end up liking the sway bar settings.

If you still have the 7:31 your gearing is going to be way too short. As far as camber, toe,ARB I think you'll find that what worked with your previous 16,17,18" set up will work pretty well as a starting point with the 15's

Thanks, Dan! The gearing is low but I think it will be great for LRP as I can run 4th everywhere but big bend to no-name, and will hit 5th midway down the straight, I think.... It sure feels low on the street (car and gears).

I can't lower the front, the left rubs in the downhill. I need some custom front wheels to match the rears now

Then you might consider raising the rear a little.

Mike what style braids did you go with?

Fred C ran larger diameter on the front at first didn't he?

I got the Fuchs RSR style braids. They look great but the silver outside part seems to be getting dirty and smudged already, much easier than the stock wheels.

Mike,

Just make certain you still have a one degree rake in the car and sufficient bump & droop travel.

Good to go.

I checked the car when it was on the trailer and it seems the front is still quite a bit lower than the rear, measured on the rocker panels. The fronts are even shorter tires (225/45/15 22.9" diameter).

I just saw that Hoosier has announced a new tire that would be great in PCA racing, a 275/35ZR17 which is the same diameter as the 245/45/16 I normally run. More wheels...

don't copy Fred's setup. he ran the car on the bump stops with elbows flying on every corner. definitely a a setup only Fred could make work. most guys would wreck on the first corner.

Gearing is perfect with7200 rpm redline. Close to the minute mark but not as fast as I hoped.

Rear grip seems less than 245/45/16.

I needed to tighten the front sway bar and still not planted. Seems better early in the session with lower pressures, running about 34 36 hot do you guys run lower? Car is 2300 pounds.

I found that if I start my Hoosiers at around 26 cold, I like how the car feels the whole 20-25min race.... I also found that my hot pressures, along as they are under 34 hot, did not matter that much.
