Have run both on my 944. R1 is far superior to the 888 but does have a shorter lifespan. R1 is actually closer to a Hoosier with a bit longer life. We find on the 944 the Hoosier may have a touch higher grip for the first 3 cycles but then is even to the R1, and the R1 lasts longer.

I just killed a set of R1's with 30 heat cycles, including 2 1hr races... corded them by locking brakes at a new track (The Ridge in WA). The R1 falls off a bit from start to end but we have some tracks here that love old tires so it works out well.

For me, the longer life and lower costs makes them a win over the Hoosier. For DE it's a balance of cost/performance, but if you are not liking the 888's, BFG R1 is a great option.
