PCA Points question
I have question about the "Bonus Points" in the PCA points championship.
Using the upcoming 35 car E class field at Road America as an example:
The 7th place finisher gets the last "Position" point + the maximum allowed 10 "Bonus" points for a total of 11 points.
The 8th place finisher then gets 10 Bonus points only.
Then the 9th-25th place finishers ALSO get 10 points each.
The 26th car gets 9 points, and so on.
Is this correct? It doesn't seem right that the person who finishes 8th in a 35 car field gets the same number of points as the person who finishes 25th...
It looks like the Bonus system really only works in 18 (or less) car fields.
If the above is true, does anybody have any other ideas on how to fairly distribute Bonus points for huge classes like E?

I think the bonus system is still fair because those earning points did in fact finish ahead of others and why shouldn't they get points in big fields. However, those finishing in the top of the field will still get more points... That said, i could see modifying the rules to make sure that those not receiving finish position points get, say, 1/2 the bonus points so there are even more points on a relative basis earned by the top finishers in large fields...

Maybe, if using the current first 7 places for position points and a max of 10 bonus points, the bonus points should depreciate down the sheet (before getting to within 10 places of last place).
Example in a field greater than or equal to 18:
7th place gets 11 points (1 position and 10 bonus)
8th gets 10 (all bonus)
9th gets 9
10th gets 8
and so on...
20+ car E class fields are not that uncommon these days. It just seems strange that 8th place and 25th place get the same points in a 35 car field.

7th place gets 11 points (1 position and 10 bonus)
8th gets 10 (all bonus)
9th gets 9
10th gets 8
and so on...

Is Rennpoints the definitive source for the current PCA Championship standings? The reason I ask is that it does not seem to reflect the 13s handed out this season, which I think will have a big impact on the final standings. Inquiring minds want to know.

According to the rules, anyone who gets a 13 forfeits their race points as well as their event points. Maybe the Rennpoints system isn't picking it up because it's going off of the MyLaps data and the 13 isn't factored in. I'm sure if you e-mail Brian directly he will be responsive and address any concerns.

Since Brian, the keeper of Rennpoints, does not know who received a 13, he isn't taking those into account. The end of the year results will be adjusted to take into account 13s.
