I've never been there, but extrapolating from times at Trackpedia, it looks like a mid 1:37 would be a good time, and a mid1:36 would be a great time. The SM track record there is a 1:36.6, and we are typically able to match that.

You might get more feedback at www.944spec.org

At the NASA ACS race in March 2012, a handful of us were putting in 2:02 laps, a few in 2:03. Tyler Palmer the reigning National 944 spec Champion was putting in 2:01s. This all under race conditions.

128-130 is about right and you scrub a little speed in NASCAR2 going into 3 even without lifting.

The race I referred to there were almost 20 spec cars, but it was a special race with several guys including multiple national champions from back east coming out to race with the Socal group including Eric (doc) who posted above.

NASA Socal has great drivers in the 944 spec class with several National Champions among us. Even a former multiple national champion, Charles Buzzetti came out and raced at Buttonwillow last month coming out of retirement.

If everyone shows up, we CAN have up to 14 or so locals, but the problem is that everyone is so busy with family and work that usually it's half that. ACS seems to bring out the most numbers because is so close to everyone. Last July's race saw a lot of competitors even with the brutal heat and rain.

If you're looking to run with NASA Tim Comeau is the guy to talk to. I believe POC is trying to increase their numbers as well.

I have no idea where the 944 Turbo gets classed.

I agree, SoCal has a great group of guys to run with, and cars available to rent or buy.

A 944 Turbo would fit into GTS-2 or 3, but cost orders of magnitude more to make competitive, and you'd miss out on racing with a big group of great guys!

I can't help you with Pomona -- and I don't know much about 944 spec cars. But if you're new to Willow, I made a corner-by-corner guide:
